Description
As a Basic Skills Instructor, you will teach basic and independent living skills activities and provide direct instruction for individuals with various learning aptitudes. The OIC 101 Instructor will conduct assessments and occupational evaluations across a variety of disciplines including, but not limited to energy conservation, resource research, nutrition, socio-emotional/coping skills, coaching, budgeting, digital literacy, and basic law/civics education. They will provide students with entry-level knowledge to support students with becoming self-sufficient and the knowledge to be a community, family, and self-advocate. They will provide program completers with certificates of completion and refer them to the Education and Career Services Department.
Requirements
Maintain an active record of student performance and growth. Research, develop, and implement culturally relevant instruction and materials to assist students with academic and professional skills development.
Prepare students for further education by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and persevere with challenging tasks.
Expose students to occupational training and careers, particularly for STEM-related activities, and help with work readiness training for students.
Must work in partnership with programmatic staff to ensure student's academic progress is guided by each student's Individual Success Plan (ISP).
Work with partners to coordinate other services.
Observe and evaluate students' work to determine progress and make suggestions for improvement to the Project/Program Director.
Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students.
Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs, abilities, and interests.
Other duties as assigned.
