• Special Education assists a certificated teacher in providing instruction and care to individuals or small groups of students with severe physical disabilities and/or cognitive delays, monitors and reports student progress regarding behavior and performance, and performs a variety of other instructional support duties as assigned. Please note that individuals who work in this assignment have responsibility for assisting severely handicapped students with personal needs (e.g. tube feeding, suctioning, toileting, diapering, positioning and/or mobility, social skills, etc.). Assignments are typically 5.5 - 6 hours per day.

Requirements / Qualifications

Six months of job-related experience working with children is required. Experience may be paid or volunteer. Targeted job-related education that meets the organization's prerequisite requirements, including any education provisions mandated by the State or federal government is required.

Valid First Aid and Adult CPR certification(s) from an accredited organization such as the Red Cross or American Heart Association. Online First Aid certificates are acceptable, however, CPR certificate must include "hands on" classroom training.

If you do not have valid certification(s), you may submit certifications to a test proctor if you are selected to move forward in the testing process. Certifications must be submitted by the date scheduled for the Qualifications Appraisal Interview.

Examination process: Completed applications are reviewed and candidates who meet the minimum qualifications participate in the following examinations: Multiple Choice test (math and English), weight: 75% and essay test, weight: 25%. The competitive basis for this recruitment is Open/Promotional

• Dual Certification. Candidates who pass all exams are placed on one of two eligibility lists in order of overall exam score.
  
  The Open eligibility list includes candidates who are not currently employed by San Dieguito Union High School District. The Promotional eligibility list includes candidates who are SDUHSD employees. When fewer than three ranks exist on the Promotional eligibility list candidates from the Open eligibility list will be considered.
  
  If a candidate has taken the multiple choice and/or performance test for this San Dieguito Union High School District job title or similar job title within the past two years, candidate may be able to transfer the scores to this recruitment. The exam must be sufficiently similar, as determined by the Director, Classified Personnel. Prior to the application deadline, a request to transfer score(s) should be e-mailed to: barbara.bass@sduhsd.net . Transferring of exam scores does not apply to a Qualifications Appraisal Interview.
  
  This recruitment is posted as continuous filing due to anticipated vacancies throughout the school year. The examination will be administered periodically throughout the year. Individual eligibility is valid for a six month period.
  
  Candidate names will be merged onto an existing list based on overall exam score each time the exam is administered. Veterans may be eligible for preference points on entrance examinations ("entrance" is defined as candidates who are not current employees of the District). Please attach a copy of your DD214 to your application. Employment with San Dieguito Union High School District is contingent upon successful completion of post-offer background check, fingerprinting, physical exam including tuberculosis, drug and alcohol screening, and an Oath of Allegiance.
  
  The probationary period for a new or promotional employee is six months or 130 days of paid service, whichever is longer. Management employees serve a probationary period of one year.
