Job Description:

The Instructional Technology Instructor will orient students to technology tools used in the job of Para Educator in the local public schools. Paraprofessional Educators work with teachers and other school staff to provide instructional assistance, classroom support, and implement effective classroom strategies to meet the needs of all students.

The instructional focus will include modules with Digital Literacy using both the Microsoft Office and Google suites along with training to prepare students to work with technology commonly used in the classroom environment. The instructor will provide face-to-face instruction using web based learning tools and instructor led projects. Instructors will follow the course syllabus (pacing guide) and unit plans using the Google Classroom and other Learning Management Systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide high quality instruction related to basic to intermediate computer skill development while utilizing diverse technology platforms. Instruction will vary from introductory to intermediate level topics including basic computer skills, email, Windows, Microsoft Word, Google Suite, Internet and other software needs such as working safely online and utilizing various LMS tools.

  • Works closely with the Education and Career Advisor to guide learners in understanding career goals and developing additional work readiness skills in relation to that goal. This includes providing information about careers, career pathways, area employment opportunities, contextualized instruction, and supporting students with developing resumes and cover letters. Assist with understanding educational programs, job training, or employment opportunities related to the Paraprofessional career path.

  • Works closely with program staff to create a collaborative learning environment while utilizing a variety of instructional methods, techniques and on campus/online resources.

  • Using unit plans and lesson plans prepares Google Classroom, instructional videos, models, labs, class websites, links, challenges, projects for face-to-face instruction demonstrating a proficiency of best practices for adult learners.

  • Collaborates with program staff to develop and maintain student assessment schedules in order to meet program goals and fulfill funding requirements.

  • Assesses students in all subject areas using summative and formative assessments, Workkeys and Digital Literacy and Workplace Readiness based on instructional needs.

  • Participates in program planning, curriculum development, and program continuous improvement activities and requirements.

  • Attends meetings, participates in programs, projects and other duties as needed.

Requirements:

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse, inclusive and student-centered environment, and with current and prospective students and staff of various learning styles, cultures, identities, and life-experiences.

  • At least 3 years of experience with providing instruction and/or training in a professional environment.

  • Bachelor's degree is required, in Education, Technology, or related areas of study.

  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication in English, using multimedia and other technology.

  • Ability to work with second language learners and translate technical and Workkeys terms/processes into lay terms.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Excellent technology skills; proficient in Windows, Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams, Google Classroom, Docs, Slides, Sheets and other technology that supports student instruction e.g., multimedia, videos, and communication tools.

  • Commitment to learner-centered, life-long learning; professional development.

  • Belief that students can learn and willingness to meet the needs of the students.

  • Ability to teach with proficiency in person and/or online.

  • Positive attitude, patience, flexible and demonstrates the ability to explain concepts to all learners.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working with a diverse population.

  • Experience with providing instruction and/or training in a professional environment.

  • Experience with training using the Workkeys System.

  • Past experience as a paraprofessional.

  • Proficiency in English and Spanish.

  • Strong leadership skills.

Additional Information:

Salary: $50 per hour

Benefits: No. Non-Union position

Work Schedule: Current class schedule is 10 week sessions (Monday through Thursday, evenings typically between 5:30 and 9:00 PM) in line with the Workforce Development academic calendar, available funding, and need of the department. Individual schedule to be determined with the supervisor including evening meetings from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at least once a month on campus.
