JOB SUMMARY
Serves as the Ceramics/3-D design shop supervisor. Duties include instructing shop users, equipment operator, property custodian, ordering, receiving, expenditure tracking and ensuring all environmental health and safety standards are followed.
This position provides tutoring and coaching services to students in a variety of academic areas including teaching supplemental classes.
Shop Supervisor and Instructor
Assists and instructs students in safe use and proper operation of shop equipment, including kilns, kiln firing (electric, gas, soda,) potters' wheels, clay mixing and pugging equipment, hand tools, etc..
Supports classroom instruction of kiln firing processes.
Teaches, instructs, and assists students in use of clay and glaze raw materials.
Organize shop's equipment and space for safe, effective use and provide instruction and signage to assist safe and organized use of shop.
Maintains shop areas of Ceramics facilities in a clean and orderly fashion. This includes instructing students in proper clean-up and studio maintenance. Hires, trains and supervises work-study student assistants.
Shop Equipment Operation:
Maintenance and Property Custodian.
Responsible for safe operation and maintenance of studio equipment and tools: including electric kilns, gas kilns, clay mixers and pugmills, power tools, small hand tools, wood shop equipment, potters' wheels, etc..
Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions.
Responsible for ordering and acquisition of parts for equipment repair.
Repairs equipment where possible.
Provides an annual inventory of shop properties.
Provides for safe storage and check-out of shop property.
Ordering, Receiving and Accounting:
Fiduciary responsibility for multiple budget streams including management of lab fees, equipment, and material budgets for Ceramics and Visual Arts Programs.
Orders shop supplies and equipment.
Maintains inventory and orders ceramic raw materials.
Checks all related supplies and equipment are received in good and working condition and that orders are complete.
Academic:
May assist in hiring process for student employees including checking references, onboarding, training, and oversight. Prepares schedules and weekly assignments for student workers.
Provides student support services which includes: scheduling sessions; administering tests; compiling instructional materials to be used in the tutoring process; and performing related duties.
Explains course materials and encourages students through coaching in individual and group settings; engages student in completing assignments; and coordinates with faculty.
Creates and delivers workshops.
Maintains learning spaces.
Maintains student records, evaluations, and reports as needed for lab usage and feedback communications.
Participates in related College and community events.
May assist in office support such as copying, ordering supplies, and filing.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Master's degree; two (2) years of related work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Work performed is primarily:
