PURPOSE OF JOB: The Instructional Coach is a professional educator who engages teachers as a thinking partner with a goal of building the capacity of teachers to manage and engage students, use data to plan and adjust instruction. This role facilitates the implementation of evidence-based practices, the integration of new technologies into teaching and learning, as well as the preparation of students for high-stakes assessments

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop collegial relationships with teachers with a goal of understanding the teacher current instructional delivery strategy and opportunities to incorporate other research proven instructional methods to meet the individual and collective needs of the students.

  • Coach teachers on establishing effective classroom management practices, and individual behavioral intervention plans by tailoring communication style and approach to meet diverse personalities and backgrounds. Encourage teacher collaboration through positive interactions

  • Tailor communication with teachers to achieve adoption of changes to instructional delivery and planning to positively impact student engagement and achievement.

  • Support teachers through a non-evaluative, non-judgmental coaching model that builds self-directedness and internal capacity including planning, self-assessment and reflection

  • Provide research based feedback on proposed instructional and classroom management strategies in order to create an environment that promotes evidence and research based techniques and approaches to classroom management and learning

  • Support the instructional program outlined by the district and building leadership

  • Provide support and feedback to curriculum coordinators in the development and revision of curriculum frameworks

  • Identify model classrooms that incorporate all elements of effective classroom instruction.

  • Lead study groups and teacher meetings focusing on instructional planning, effective lesson delivery, Professional Learning Communities, and analyzing student work and data analysis

  • Implement techniques that include modeling teaching, one-on-one coaching and facilitating group observations and critiquing to improve teaching and learning

  • Promotes adapting lab work and lab design to grade level and available supplies as needed

  • Analyze and monitor school level data results in order to recommend intervention and relationship building with identified teachers with a goal of impacting student behavior, engagement, and achievement

  • Analyze student work using the performance standards to ensure learning and teaching to deep levels of understanding

  • Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education from a four-year college or university

  • Five (5) years of classroom teaching experience in a public school district or three (3) years of professional experience in a corporate setting to supplement certified teaching experience

  • Demonstrated experience and/or training in current techniques and skills in teaching students

  • Experience with various technology resources and applications including Pearson digital products, interactive whiteboard applications, web-based networking tools, and Microsoft Office suite

  • Valid Missouri teaching certificate

  • Content-specific knowledge of the current state standards including grade level expectations, course level expectations, and other content specific standards documents articulated by Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)

  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and sound professional development practices as identified by Learning Forward

  • Knowledge in Inquiry-based learning and in Instructional Methodologies

  • Knowledge of the use of interactive software and hardware in the classroom

  • Knowledge of effective application of technology in K-12 classroom environment

  • Agreement to participate in Instructional Coaching Certification program. Continued employment as an Instructional Coach is contingent up the certificate being earned within one year of admission to the program

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master Degree in Education or related field

  • Experience coaching and/or training adults to modify behavior in a classroom or corporate setting
