Summary:

The Instructional Support Assistant demonstrates daily the Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine's values for respect, trust, integrity, teamwork, and a commitment to a one team-one goal culture. This position provides instructional and operational program support to shared designated and respective Faculty/Course Directors or equivalent level positions and oversees one or more core operational and/or programmatic activities through assisting a department or group of professionals and requires the ability to exercise independent judgment and employ basic reasoning skills. This position reports to a director. The employee will complete annual/probationary evaluations.

  • This position is Non-Exempt.

  • The position reports to the Campus Dean.

  • The salary starts at $38,000 depending on experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend required department and assigned course and lab planning meetings.

  • Consult, interact, and work collaboratively with faculty/course directors, Simulation Lab (SIM) and Standardized Patient (SP) Directors, Anatomy, community-based learning (CBL), exam-related activities, and outside organizations in scheduling student courses and lab facility space and other events to facilitate a successful outcome. This includes physical presence before, during, and after the event.

  • Tasks include but are not limited to; scheduling faculty and other participants, scheduling appropriate rooms/facilities, confirming students' availability, generating rosters and other course/lab materials, preparing room set-up and equipment, check-in and monitoring students' participation/ attendance, support delivery of curriculum, troubleshoot video or technical issues.

  • Arrange space, guest accommodation, tours, food, and other applicable activities for the department.

  • Provide on-site coordination and consultation which includes problem-solving, decision-making, and interaction with others.

  • Provide input on the departmental budget related to course instruction expenditures and future needs.

  • Answer questions within the scope of the position and redirect student questions related to curriculum content or assessment to appropriate personnel.

  • Assist in the preparation of reports and post-activity evaluation data and maintain comprehensive program records and statistical information.

  • Compose related correspondence in support of assigned duties.

  • Assist in creating, editing, and dissemination of course related material and schedules.

  • Assist in implementation and monitoring of new course-related materials and technology.

  • Ensure adequate supply of necessary supplies as related to course and lab support; generate requests and complete orders as needed.

  • Maintain security and confidentiality of BCOM information.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Desire to learn strong skills in utilizing educational technologies.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.

  • Two (2) years of experience related to standard duties.

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

  • Basic competency with spreadsheet development and data management.

  • This job requires frequent movement, moving around the lab/lecture hall assisting in set up, distribution of materials, and monitoring activities in rooms.

  • Approximately 90% of this position's duties require the use of a computer.

  • Must be able to exert up to 20-40 lbs. of force occasionally.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.

Work Schedule:

  • Typically, Monday through Friday, 8 am-5 pm.

  • Occasionally require early morning, evening, and weekends for labs and/or special events.
