Responsibilities

The Senior Director of Career Services plays a pivotal role in shaping the professional trajectory of College of Business students. This individual leads a team dedicated to providing comprehensive career and professional development resources, forging meaningful industry connections, and fostering a culture of lifelong career success and is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the Center's programs described above. The Senior Director serves as a strategic partner to students, faculty, alumni, and employers, ensuring alignment between academic preparation and real-world employment opportunities.

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a strategic plan for the career center that aligns with the college's mission and the evolving needs of the business job market.

  • Employer Engagement: Build and maintain strategic partnerships with employers, industry associations, and alumni networks to expand internship, job, and experiential learning opportunities for students. Organize career fairs, networking events, and on-campus recruiting sessions.

  • Career Advising: Oversee a team of professional development advisors/course facilitators who provide individualized career guidance to students, including resume reviews, mock interviews, and job search strategies.

  • Program Development: Design and deliver innovative programs and workshops that enhance students' employability skills, including resume writing, interviewing skills, job search strategies, and professional networking.

  • Data Analysis & Assessment: Utilize data to assess student outcomes, employment trends, and career services utilization to inform programmatic decisions and continuous improvement efforts. Evaluate the effectiveness of career services initiatives and implement strategies for enhancing student success and satisfaction.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with faculty, staff, alumni, and external partners to integrate career readiness into the curriculum and co-curricular activities.

  • Technology: Evaluate available career services-specific technology tools to ensure streamlined operations and better meet the needs of students and employers.

  • Budget Management: Manage the Center's budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to support strategic priorities.

Qualifications

  • A master's degree in business, education, counseling, or a related field.

  • At least five years of experience in an academic career services setting, preferably with ever increasing leadership roles, and preferably within a business school environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A strong understanding of today's business environment, including the skills demanded of recent business graduates and recent trends in business professions.

  • A strong understanding of industry best practices, especially with respect to NACE guidelines.

  • Experience working in an academic leadership role with a thorough understanding of academic policies and procedures.

  • A creative vision for the Center, oriented toward building and enhancing career and professional development programs.

  • A demonstrated capacity to establish, cultivate and manage professional relationships with various internal and external stakeholder groups.

  • An ability to manage and supervise others in a collaborative team-oriented environment.

  • Strong communication skills, organizational skills and an ability to handle multiple responsibilities.

  • An ability to maintain collegial and collaborative relationships within the Center, within the college, and with other administrative units in the university.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, career management systems, and social media platforms.

The College of Business, a rapidly growing college whose degree programs are consistently ranked among the nation's best among public institutions, is seeking to hire a Senior Director for its Center for Career Services (CCS). The Center provides programs, learning experiences and activities that complement classroom instruction. Business students have access to tailored support and resources through the Center to ensure they define and achieve their professional goals before and after graduation. Alumni and the business community help further build students' professionalism and careers through participation in various networking events and opportunities. The Center's operations are currently organized along the following programmatic lines:

  • First-Year Experience Programs
  • The Center offers the Business Living Learning Community for first-year students to acclimate them more rapidly to the college experience, prepare them for the rigors of business school, and set them on an early path toward career planning and preparation. The Center also offers many Engage 100 courses to introduce students to the variety of careers available with a degree in business.
  • Professional Development
  • The Center educates undergraduate students about careers in business through a professional development course required for admission to the college and continued coaching after admission. These efforts also extend to the college's graduate students. All business students are offered career planning and advising (including resume and interview preparation) throughout the year and in advance of the college's Career Expo. The Center also coordinates badge, certification and other micro-credential programs as appropriate.
  • Employer Development
  • The Center recruits employer partners and connects them with students through a variety of initiatives, including the Business Career Expo and other events designed to acquaint students with career opportunities in different firms and industries.
  • Internship Programs
  • The Center works extensively with employers to develop meaningful business-related internship and cooperative learning opportunities, communicate those opportunities to students, facilitate the application process, and administer internship courses.
  • Student Engagement
  • The Center coordinates extensively with the college's Strategic Engagement Team to plan and execute the college's Career Expo each semester. The Center also connects students with numerous student-run organizations and related events in the college, including efforts associated with peer networking and alumni mentoring programs. The Center coordinates extensively with the college's Honors Programs and the career-related initiatives led by departments and academic centers.
