Title: INSTRUCTIONAL SPECIALIST (LITERACY 6-12)

Reports to: Director of Curriculum & Instruction & Data & Assessments

Job Objective: The primary role of the Instructional Specialist is to mentor and support teaching and learning through modeling, coaching and professional development to improve and accelerate student achievement through quality curriculum and instruction. An Instructional Specialist is a certified, highly qualified teacher who demonstrates leadership skills and has expertise in curriculum, instructional strategies, child development, classroom management and knowledge of adult learning theory. The specialist will support schools in establishing student outcome-focused teacher based teams in literacy, math, or science.

Minimum · Valid state department of education license/certificate appropriate for the position.

Qualifications: · A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.

  • Minimum successful teaching experience AND years as a coach/school leader.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in achieving ambitious, measureable student results in literacy, science, and/or math.

  • Experience facilitating teacher teams/groups to achieve student outcomes.

  • Strong critical thinking skills.

  • Superior interpersonal skills to motivate and lead others at all levels within a school.

  • Effective organizational, planning, and project management skills.

  • Demonstrates current knowledge and the ability to apply broad-based curriculum designs and instructional technology applications that support the diverse learning needs of students.

  • Coordinates assigned curriculum activities. Promotes an effective learning environment.

  • Supports planning, implementation, and assessment of effective instruction.

  • Provides leadership and support in Building Leadership and Teacher Based Team meetings.

  • Document TBT and BLT meetings in the appropriate databases.

  • Helps develop and implement the district's improvement plan.

  • Attends required network trainings.

  • Participates in leadership and coaching professional development/workshops.

  • Implements funded proposals and complies with reporting requirements.

  • Assists with the planning and delivery of effective professional development programs that improve teaching outcomes and student learning (e.g., methods, skills, commitment, etc.).

  • Helps manage the instructional program. Directs the development, assessment, and revision of curriculum guides and courses of study. Manages the planning process to select instructional materials and equipment.

  • Serves on the district curriculum committee to develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum as assigned.

  • Keeps current with the K-12 courses of study, the district's scope and sequences, and state standards/guidelines.

  • Assists with student testing programs. Analyzes test results. Provides leadership for instructional modifications and interventions that enhance student learning and improve test performance.

  • Supervises the implementation of intervention programs as directed.

  • Provides staff leadership and consensus development. Advances the change process. Implements strategies and time-frames to accomplish organizational objectives.

  • Provides guidance, communicates expectations, and shows an active interest in student progress.

  • Helps staff resolve problems that impede student participation in appropriate learning activities.

  • Assists with collection, verification, and recording of program information as directed.

  • Maintains accurate records and submits reports on time.

  • Maintains open and effective communications. Promotes the district's mission, philosophy, and vision.

  • Pursues growth opportunities that enhance professional performance and advance district goals.

  • Maintains a professional appearance. Wears work attire appropriate for the position.
