The University of Akron is searching for an individual whose essential functions will be to: Maintain and help supervise, instructional labs, research labs, workshop, and supply rooms; Set up equipment for instructional labs; Work with faculty members to set up and maintain equipment, materials and instrumentation for research labs; Purchase, repair, maintain, and inventory all equipment, chemicals and supplies; Design, build, and repair equipment for research and teaching; Assist in supervision of laboratory teaching assistants.
A major function of the IRS manager is the support of introductory and general education physics lab courses which serve approximately 700 students per semester. This requires checking/troubleshooting equipment as necessary to ensure that all the labs run smoothly. In addition, the IRS manager will serve as building coordinator and play an active role in the Physics Departments' upcoming move into temporary space while its current building is being renovated, and, later, in its move to the renovated space.
The position requires an M.S. in physics, or related discipline and a minimum of two (2) years experience in research, electronics, and instrumentation. Computer skills/problem solving abilities for day-to-day maintenance of our departmental computer network and computer-related needs of faculty, staff and students are also required.
A working knowledge of PeopleSoft for UA departmental purchasing/requisitions and undergraduate lab teaching experience is preferred.
