Under the direction the Director of Special Education or Designee, and in cooperation with a credentialed education specialist, this position performs duties necessary to assist in providing specialized academic instruction (SAI) and intensive individual special education instruction to students in our special education program. ABOUT THE CALIFORNIA VIRTUAL ACADEMIES:

The California Virtual Academies (a network of 9 public charter schools) delivers online/virtual home based instruction to TK-12 students in California. While our schools do offer some scheduling flexibility, students are required to complete approximately 4-6 hours of coursework daily and log attendance. Stride is our curriculum provider.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Support student learning in GE classes or SAI classes as whole group • Work in breakout rooms for both general education (GE) and SAI under the supervision of a credentialed teacher • Record student activity in GE when pushing in • Collect work samples from time spent with them during push in in GE. • Assist education specialist in monitoring and collecting student performance data and other IEP input • Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials and/or skills introduced and outlined by teaching staff • Provide support for students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in educational activities • Serves as a resource person to various teams (e.g. IEP, Title 1, ESL) • Attend necessary training sessions associated with individual students as required by student IEP (e.g. medical procedures, IEP meetings, etc.) • Motivate students through effective communication and evaluative feedback • Model a personal code of ethics aligned with CAVA's policies • Maintains necessary records • Uses direction from special education administrative team to carry out duties • Other duties as assigned

HOURS AND SALARY INFORMATION: Part Time:

Monday-Friday 9:00am-3:30pm (30 hours a week) You are not allowed to have another job during these contracted hours. Salary: $22/hour We do participate in CalPERS. Please contact your CalPERS counselor about how employment with any of the California Virtual Academies may affect your personal PERS account.

Only full time employees are offered health, dental, and vision benefits. Benefits information is only given out upon offer. We do provide training for all programs and we have a great staff to serve as your support system.

Requirements/Experience: Have at least one of the following (proof of one of the following must be uploaded to your application in order to be considered): 1. Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (60+ semester units) 2.

Have an associate's or higher degree 3. Have a passing score on the California Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST) Other skills and qualifications: • Demonstrates an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude towards students of various age groups, temperaments, and abilities (particularly those exhibiting specialized needs) • Exhibit ability to handle confidential information and materials • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and administrators • Reside in the state of California • Ability to support and guide adults, as well as students • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Organization and time-management skills • Flexible schedule • Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, and Outlook, PowerPoint and experience using them in a professional capacity

• Other (Please attach your CBEST scores and/or transcripts that show that you have completed at least two years of study (60+ semester units) at an institution of higher education and/or transcripts that have a conferral of either an Associate's Degree, Bachelor's Degree, or higher degree awarded by the college/university.)
