Summary:

The Instructional Designer (ID) plays a critical role in crafting educational materials for constables, sheriffs, and deputy sheriffs across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Each year, these professionals must complete mandatory continuing education and training modules, which are designed by our team.

This role is responsible for the design, implementation support, and evaluation of off-campus programs and trainings developed for the Pennsylvania Commission and Crime and Delinquency (PCCD). The ID will provide instructional design support and advice on current best practices.

The Instructional Designer designs and coordinates non-credit training content to a wide range of audiences and must be comfortable supporting content for in-person and on Zoom, Teams, and other digital tools. The Instructional Designer/Trainer also develops media products for use in online courses, self-paced modules, and websites including video, audio podcasts, and graphics.

The Instructional Designer works as a member of the Non-Credit and Continuing Education team and will be required to become familiar with a variety of PCCD policies, procedures, and stakeholders.

The Instructional Designer requires excellent organizational skills, flexibility, familiarity with adult learning principles, strong interpersonal skills, teaching/presentation skills, and attention to detail. Knowledge of video and audio editing software is required, as well as knowledge of technology tools for online learning including Canvas.

As a member of the Non-Credit and Continuing Education team, this position may work on and off-campus, including client locations and may require early morning, evening, and weekend work hours. This is a grant-funded position.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

Bachelor's Degree and 2 or more years of directly related experience working as an instructional designer. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Technical experience working with LMS (Canvas)

  • Strong written and presentation skills, with close attention to detail.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to work in a challenging and fast paced, collaborative environment.

  • Demonstrated project management skills and ability to collaborate across departments and campuses, multi-task and prioritize.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of administrators, faculty and staff.

  • Ability to travel to offsite locations that may not be accessible via public transportation.

Preferred:

Master's degree.

Technical experience working with video and audio editing software (ideally Adobe Suite but other software is also acceptable).

Background working with criminal justice or government agencies.

Experience in a higher education setting, particularly higher education teaching experience.

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
