Position Summary Information

Duties

The Instructional Designer/Multimedia Specialist works as part of a team in Athens Teaching and Learning Innovation Services (ATLIS) at Athens State University. Supervised by the Director, this position functions primarily to design and develop courses and modules for online, blended, and face to face learning environments. The position secondarily functions to design and develop multimedia lessons and materials for instructional use.

DUTIES:

● Collaborates with faculty to design and develop engaging courses and course content for online, blended, and face to face environments

● Designs and develops interactive multimedia content for use in courses

● Designs and develops graphics for use in multimedia, print, and web-based products

● Designs and develops brochures, advertisements, announcements, training materials, how-to guides, and other print materials

● Writes scripts and develops storyboards for videos and other multimedia products

● Shoots and edits field and studio-based videos for instructional products, utilizing professional video and audio technology

● Serves as Technical Producer for live webinars and other cloud-based events originating in the television studio and other locations

● Designs and conducts training for faculty in multimedia skills and best practices

● Consults with faculty to recommend multimedia tools and strategies

● Researches best practices in instructional design and multimedia development, and explores innovative methods to share with faculty

● Applies best practices of instructional design and multimedia learning to course design and development

● Works with faculty to develop course content in compliance with Quality Matters rubric and other adopted standards

● Provides occasional audio-visual support for events and meetings

● Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to changing work scope and tasks based on need.

● Actively works towards building cooperative and collaborative relationships with peers

and internal faculty and staff.

● Maintains "open door" to internal and external customers.

● Identifies opportunities for improvements to work practices and offers viable solutions for implementation.

● Proactively engages in problem solving related to tasks in this position with internal and external people.

● Routinely practices self-monitoring by assessing self to make improvements or take corrective action to improve performance.

● Completes other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's Degree required in Media Production, Instructional Design, or equivalent experience as an Instructional Designer or Multimedia Producer in a Higher Education setting

  • Experience working with Higher Education faculty to design and deliver online and face to face courses

  • Proficiency in basic software tools (Microsoft Office, Google Suite)

  • Proficiency in writing, shooting, and editing audio and video content using professional cameras and technologies (Adobe Premiere, Camtasia Studio, Adobe After Effects, Audacity, VMix)

  • Proficiency in authoring interactive multimedia content using professional tools (Captivate, Articulate Storyline, etc.).

  • Proficiency in print and graphic design software (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.)

  • Understanding of instructional design models and strategies, as well as multimedia learning theory and practice, and ability to apply them to specific course design needs.

  • Knowledge and experience creating and modifying multimedia content for Accessibility compliance

  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision or oversight

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:

  • Master's Degree in Media Production, Instructional Design

  • 2 years' experience in Higher Education designing and developing interactive multimedia learning content

  • Expertise in HTML

  • Experience developing SCORM compliant content

  • Experience with Blackboard Learn and Canvas

  • Experience with CourseArc design software

  • Familiarity with Quality Matters Rubric

Salary Band: P360

Located in historic Athens, Alabama, Athens State University offers junior and senior-level coursework to community college graduates and transfer students holding sufficient credits from other institutions. Presently, over 3,100 students have selected Athens State because of its neighborly environment where 50 majors and degree programs are offered, with courses taught by a supportive and exceptional faculty.
