The Learning and Resource Center at WRMA is seeking a self-motivated, creative, and dependable individual to join our growing team as an Instructional Designer/Editor. The individual selected for this position will play a key role in developing learning and other resource content for numerous projects within our organization. Content may vary from single- or multi-page reference material to full curriculum technical training materials in various modalities.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Working with Subject Matter Experts (SME) and identifying target audience needs
Creating engaging learning activities and compelling course content
Collaborating with the Learning and Resource Center team and other project team members to determine the best medium and approach for content development
Reviewing and editing content for formatting consistency across projects
Transforming generic content into creative and engaging formats to improve audience consumption and retention
Applying adult learning theory and instructional design best-practices
Completing other duties as assigned
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, Communications, Instructional Design or related field
Minimum 2-3 years' experience with instructional design, technical writing, desktop publishing, or related field
Minimum 2-3 years designing and developing learning content in various modalities (user manuals, reference guides, e-learning, simulations, demonstrations, etc.)
Proficiency in MS Office Suite
Efficiency in various authoring tools (Adobe Captivate, Adobe RoboHelp, Articulate Storyline, or other) and webinar platforms (Adobe Connect, WebEx, other)
Understanding of adult learning theories and instructional design models
Proven experience quickly learning complex systems
Ability to work with minimal supervision and guidance
Ability to be productive independently and as part of a team
Ability to travel periodically (5-15%)
Master's degree in Instructional Design, Adult Learning Theory, or related field
3-5 years' experience with instructional design, technical writing, or related field
3-5 years' experience working with state and federal government projects (Human Services experience strongly preferred)
In-depth knowledge of adult learning theories and instructional design models
Strong graphic design instincts
Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite products
Demonstrated proficiency in Section 508 Compliance development/editing
Experience publishing to and administering an LMS
Work in enclosed office with controlled temperature climates
Long periods of sitting
Long periods of computer use
Lifting up to 25 pounds
Long periods of focus and detail orientation
TRAVEL: Occasional travel may be required.
