POSITION SUMMARY
The Instructional Designer is responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating training and development programs both synchronous and asynchronous for employees within the Universities of Wisconsin. The specialist will collaborate with various departments to identify training needs, develop content, deliver training, and assess the effectiveness of the training programs. This role requires strong instructional design skills, excellent communication abilities, attention to detail and the ability to positively engage with others on the team.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop, write, and edit learning objectives and ensure they are aligned with business documentation and end-user business processes
Facilitate courses and activities, guide learning to align with curriculum
Work with subject matter experts and other team members to complete content development, prepare, and update specialized instructional materials and assessment tools to align with business objectives and strategy
Conduct needs assessments and evaluations to support ongoing development and improvement of learning experiences for customers
Review and analyze course evaluation data and determine appropriate action to incorporate feedback
Measures participant performance and progress utilizing assessment tools to align with established mission and philosophy
Engages in conversations on decision making and strategy in adult learning standards
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered for this position, applicants must have:
Bachelor's Degree in education, instructional design, or a related field OR three (3) years of related working experience
Experience in instructional design using instructional technology to design and develop instructor-led, virtual, and on-demand learning experiences
Knowledge of adult learning theories and instructional design in a professional work environment.
Knowledge of or ability to learn complex business processing to design and develop learning experiences
Effective written and oral communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated skill and experience providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Five (5) or more years of technical training course development and facilitation in a business setting
Experience creating engaging, interactive learning experiences
Experience with a variety of technology including e-Learning platform, like Adobe Captivate, learning management systems, and online conference technology, such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams
Basic knowledge of graphic design elements and techniques to create useful and meaningful visuals
Planning, organization, and project management skills
Knowledge of Workday or other ERP application fundamentals
Experience working in the public sector or higher education
Instructional Design Certificate

WORK LOCATION
This is a hybrid position with an in-office requirement of three days per week and allowing two days to be worked off-site/remote. The office location is located at 660 West Washington Avenue in Madison, WI 53715. Telecommuting agreements are subject to change at any time.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The Instructional Designer is a full-time, salaried (exempt), Academic staff position. Well-qualified candidates can expect a starting annual salary within a range of $75,000-$83,000 commensurate with the candidate's education, related experience, and qualifications.
