Position Description:

This position will join the Center for Digital Learning & Innovation (CDLI) to support faculty course developers in the design and construction of courses in a range of modalities to ensure that all digitally mediated courses reflect the high-touch, deeply experiential learning consistent with the Jesuit approach to education. They will support faculty in the thoughtful use of learning technologies, ensure that courses are aligned at the program level, and make sure that course development deadlines are met.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Support faculty in the design and development of courses in a range of modalities: fully online, flipped-blended, and web-facilitated.

  • Assist faculty in developing authentic assessments, instructional techniques, and selecting technologies that are congruent with instructional objectives.

  • Collaborate with program directors to design courses that help students achieve program objectives at increasing levels of mastery.

  • Create assessment and tracking methods for easy evaluation of student progress and identification of curriculum gaps.

  • Stay updated on the latest learning theories to apply them effectively in practice.

  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and work closely with the team to carefully explore, evaluate, and implement these technologies.

  • Devise creative approaches to solve instructional design or technological challenges.

  • Review and certify fully online courses to comply with state, federal and university guidelines and ensure that courses meet Jesuit standards outlined in the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in instructional or curriculum design, education, or related field.

  • Three or more years of experience in instructional design and online/blended course and program development or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

  • Thorough knowledge of the online/blended course and program development process and demonstrated excellence in developing innovative and successful online and blended courses and programs.

  • Thorough knowledge of current adult and distance pedagogical theory and familiarity with university-level curriculum development and instructional methods.

  • Experience in developing and conducting training sessions for a variety of audiences, regarding the use of instructional technologies and best practices in designing and delivering content, assessments and activities.

  • Experience constructing courses in a Learning Management System (Canvas,* BlackBoard, Desire2Learn, Moodle, etc.).

  • Thorough knowledge of current technological tools for online and blended education.

  • Proven ability to effectively manage projects in a collaborative, team-based environment.

  • Excellent personal skills and ability to work with many different audiences including developers, instructors, other staff members and students.

  • Ability to design digital content that meets accessibility standards and is visually appealing.

  • Excellent writing, editing and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior use of the Canvas Learning Management System.

  • Basic knowledge of HTML.

  • Basic video editing skills.

Compensation at a Glance:

Salary Range: $72,800-$80,700

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate's gender or any other protected status.

Hybrid Eligible*

This position may be eligible for a hybrid schedule after successful completion of an introductory work period of 3-6 months. This may mean that a hybrid eligible role will begin on-campus initially and then will transition to hybrid format following onboarding and training. Flexible work plans are subject to periodic review and may be changed or terminated at any time for any reason at the university's discretion.
