The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations, which encompasses an expansive range of comprehensive service and business operations across the State of New Jersey. These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations.

Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Instructional Course Designer for Strategic Services, a department within the Rutgers division of Institutional Planning and Operations. This position will report to the Director of myPath Training and Employee Development.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Handles the design and development of creative, learner-centered, performance-based systems training programs, modules, and materials in multiple platforms including synchronous remote learning methodologies, blended classroom learning, interactive elearning, videos, webinars, database simulations, user manuals, job aides, facilitator guides, auxiliary practice, review, and resource materials.

  • Determines the course structure and levels, documents, organizes, prioritizes, and schedules training requests within the divisional Learning Management System (LMS), and evaluates training assessments.

  • Navigates within the LMS (Learning Management System) to become familiar with the training landscape.

  • Designs and delivers systems training and employee development programs.

  • Participates in routine needs assessments to identify systems training needs and programs that foster employee development, which includes identifying learning objectives, delivery techniques, and interactive learning activities.

  • Identifies and resolves gaps or improvements to curriculum design.

  • Liaises with IT and other departments, including subject matter experts, as necessary to collaborate on training projects.

  • Remains current on trends in learning technology.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in instructional course design, curriculum/instructional development, instructional technology, or a related field.

  • Two (2) years of experience in instructional course design within higher education or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.

Certifications/Licenses

  • Valid driver's license

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Good interpersonal, communication and organizational skills and the ability to work with clients effectively and efficiently to create quality training materials.

  • In-depth knowledge of learning and instructional theories, practices, emerging technologies, and their applications, especially as they relate to adult learning.

  • Ability to facilitate and present instructional materials; effectively communicate technical information to a nontechnical audience; and establish cooperative working relationships.

  • Skilled in establishing and using effective methods of communication with internal and external staff, which entails understanding the importance of regular supervision, open, timely, and consistent communication with supervisor and the ability to escalate issues in a timely fashion.

Preferred Qualifications Equipment Utilized

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Outlook). Articulate Storyline and Camtasia, as well as various instructional technology media, including AV equipment and technology for webbased course design and delivery.

  • Articulate 360 Suite (Storyline, Review and Rise, Camtasia, and SnagIt), as well as various instructional technology media, web-based course design, and AV equipment.
