Job Description:

The Instructional Coordinator will work part of the time as an Adult Education instructor and part of the time as a program coordinator, on campus or at a community partner's location.

As the instructor, provides and models student-centered instruction (in-person and/or virtual) in various areas of study. The instructor will create weekly and multi-week unit plans with prepared student objectives and timed agendas following College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Learners and best practices for instruction.

As the program coordinator, supports instructors; conducts, prepares, and analyzes student assessments; facilitates workgroups and curriculum development projects; supports the onboarding of new instructors/staff; conducts peer classroom observations; develops and facilitates professional development aligned with program continuous improvement and strategic goals.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

As Instructor:

  • Provides high quality instruction related to increasing knowledge and skills toward the attainment of a high school equivalency and college/career readiness.

  • Works closely with the Education and Career Advisors to guide learners in identifying career goals and developing work readiness skills in relation to that goal including providing information about careers, career pathways, area employment opportunities, contextualized instruction, and understanding educational programs, job training, or employment opportunities related to their interests.

  • Works closely with day and evening staff to create a collaborative learning environment while utilizing a variety of instructional methods, techniques and on campus/online resources.

  • Prepares thematic units and associated lesson plans in alignment with the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education and using a contextualized and integrated curriculum.

  • Builds culturally responsive classroom space and a community that supports success for all students.

  • Using unit plans and lesson plans prepares the learning management system shell (i.e.Google Classroom), instructional videos, models, labs, class websites, links, challenges, games, projects for face-to-face/online instruction demonstrating a proficiency of best practices for adult learners.

  • Collaborates with program staff to develop and maintain student assessment schedules in order to meet program goals and fulfill funding requirements.

  • Assesses Adult Education students in all subject areas using summative and formative assessments, benchmark assessments, and provides other assessments based on instructional needs.

  • Maintains timely and accurate student records including attendance, assessment and other data.

  • Participates in program planning, curriculum development, and program continuous improvement activities and requirements.

  • Attends meetings, participates in programs, projects and other duties as needed.

  • Ensures that classroom environments are supportive, culturally responsive, welcoming, respectful, trauma-sensitive, gender- and sexuality-inclusive, reflective of the community and students' cultures and identities

As Program Coordinator:

  • Works collaboratively in a diverse, inclusive and student-centered environment, and with current and prospective students and staff of various learning styles, cultures, identities, and life-experiences.

  • Models high expectations for the quality of instruction and ensures accessibility for all students.

  • Coordinates the implementation of approved curricula and high impact practices.

  • Supports the supervision of instruction & assessment staff.

  • Delivers constructive feedback to peers that acknowledges effective practice and provides next steps that will impact teaching and learning.

  • Shares resources to support the professional development of staff.

  • Mentors peers in the development and achievement of their Educator Growth Plan (including SMARTIE goals).

  • Supports the coordination of structured opportunities for teachers to observe colleagues.

  • Informs the development of protocols and facilitates team meetings, committees and professional learning communities grounded in a culture of reflective practice informed by data, high expectations, and continuous learning.

  • Contributes to the design and facilitation of a multi-year high quality professional development plan in line with strategic goals, key performance indicators, and the continuous improvement plan.

  • Shares innovative ideas to maintain the relevance of programs and services to meet student and institution needs based on current educational trends and best instructional and assessment practices.

  • Supports the development, organization, and implementation of assessment procedures and schedules.

  • Identifies student assessment tools (e.g. formative, summative, diagnostic, standardized, formal, informal), and supports the analysis of student outcomes and monitoring student progress.

  • Maintains and utilizes multiple sources of data to evaluate program performance/effectiveness and training materials.

  • Complies with college policy and procedures, and applicable state and federal statutes, regulations and policies.

  • Attends community engagement events as needed.

  • Develops and maintains constructive and cooperative working relationships with community partners.

  • Completes special projects and other responsibilities as needed or assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (Master's Degree in education or related field preferred).

  • At least 3 years of teaching experience.

  • Experience with backward curriculum and instructional design.

  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Strong technology skills, including experience with online learning, and learning management systems (i.e. Google Classroom, Blackboard, etc.).

  • Excellent organizational skills and strong leadership skills.

  • Experience collecting and analyzing data.

  • Commitment to professional and program development.

  • Commitment to learner-centered teaching.

  • Ability to work effectively and flexibly with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body; knowledge of culturally responsive and sustaining teaching and Universal Design for Learning.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching and assessing adult learners.

  • Familiarity with DESE-funded Adult Education system (including MA English Language Proficiency Standards and College & Career Readiness Standards).

  • Experience using the DESE LACES database.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

  • Experience with facilitating formal assessments to adult learners.

Reports to Director of Instruction & Assessment, Workforce Development

Salary: Starting Salary $57,249, annually. 37.5 hours per week, 52 weeks per year.
