General Job Function:

The Instructional Coach, having expertise in the areas of: classroom instruction, instructional coaching, adult learning theory, and organizational change, will work as a colleague with classroom teachers to support student learning and teacher practice. The Instructional Coach will focus on individual and group professional learning that will expand and refine the understanding of researched-based effective instruction for teachers. In order to meet this purpose, the Instructional Coach will provide personalized, 1-to-1 support based on the goals and identified needs of individual teachers.

Education/Training/Experience:

  • A Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university

  • A current New Mexico Level III teaching license

  • Ability to pass employment verification and background check

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential

  • Prior Instructional Coaching preferred

  • Strong knowledge of elementary English Language Arts/literacy and math;

  • Leadership experience in curriculum/professional development;

  • Strong communication, facilitation, collaboration, and training/presentation skills;

  • Understanding of CCSS as well as vertical articulation process and professional learning communities;

  • Evidence of data-driven decision-making skills.

Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:

Resources Used in Performing Job Include (but are not limited to):

Standard office equipment and vehicle for district travel. A district car may be used or if the employee uses his/her own vehicle mileage reimbursement is available.

Physical/Cognitive Requirements:

Regularly required to walk, talk and listen. Frequently is required to stand and sit. Required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. Occasionally required to lift and/or exert force of up to 10 pounds

Environmental Conditions:

Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Job responsibilities require both inside and outside assignments. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. Work hours are established in the employment contract. Additional work hours may be assigned by the School Principal within the parameters of the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide non-evaluative feedback to teachers based on observed classroom practice and CCSS

  • Provide support in analyzing student assessment data

  • Assist teachers with instructional decisions based on assessment data when appropriate

  • Assist teachers with specific classroom strategies when appropriate

  • Provide support for classroom engagement and management

  • Assist teachers in creating materials that are aligned with the New Mexico Common Core Curriculum

  • Model effective, differentiated instruction when appropriate

  • Collaborate with district instructional coaches

  • Manage time and schedule flexibility to maximize teacher schedules and learning

  • Work positively toward meeting identified district and building improvement goals

  • Develop and maintain a confidential, collegial relationship with teachers

  • Participate fully in professional development for instructional coaches, including peer observations, professional research and reading, and inquiry sessions

  • Assist teachers in aligning teaching with appropriate standards, curriculum, and assessments

  • Work collaboratively and collegially with other instructional coaches, curriculum specialists, and district specialists

  • Understand that job responsibilities may vary related to each building's needs

  • Support the philosophy and vision of Granite School District

  • Facilitate the intellectual and professional development of teachers with a focus on improving student achievement

  • Create positive relationships with teachers and administrators

  • Communicate and demonstrate researched-based instructional practices that result in increased student performance

  • React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned

  • Provide individualized classroom-based coaching with teachers to support them in implementing effective instructional practices

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Properly notifies supervisor and/or designee of absences or tardiness.

  • Act in a professional and ethical manner and adhere to professional standards at all times.

  • Demonstrate attention to punctuality, attendance, records and reports.

  • Maintain confidentiality of student and other professional information.

  • Comply with policies, procedures and programs.

  • Begins and completes work within the allotted time.

  • Protects the District's resources through appropriate and careful use of supplies and equipment.

Personal Accountability:

  • Demonstrates reliability as evidenced by attendance records and punctuality.

  • Properly notifies supervisor and/or designee of absences or tardiness.

  • Begins and completes work within the allotted time.

  • Consistently appears in attire appropriate to the work environment.

  • Demonstrates skill in the use of equipment including its capabilities, limitations and appropriate/special application,

  • Protects the District's resources through appropriate and careful use of supplies and equipment.

  • Utilizes appropriate body mechanics to aid in the prevention of muscle strain/injury.

Equipment/Material handled:

Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology, standard office equipment, and basic Office Computer program abilities. (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher)

Terms of Employment:

Salary to follow the Teacher Salary Schedule

(Title I funding)

184 day contract/7.5 hour day (8:00 am -3:30 pm)

EMPLOYMENT: Upon an offer of employment, pass a pre-employment drug test and comply with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1968, pass a background check and provide necessary documentation qualifications.
