TITLE: Instructional Coach (Elementary)
QUALIFICATIONS:
Teaching license in elementary education and reading
Evidence of prior successful classroom teaching experience
Demonstrated expert knowledge of K-5 Curriculum
Evidence of understanding of characteristics of adult learners
Evidence of expert level collaboration skills
SALARY: NC Teacher Salary + 18% supplement

SUPERVISES: May coordinate and direct activities of paraprofessionals, volunteers and/or clerical assistants.
REPORTS TO: The school principal or his/her designee
JOB GOAL: To ensure leadership, support and consultation in the development, implementation and reflection of rigorous, standards based literacy lessons.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as coach/resource to teachers regarding core issues of lesson design and reflection.
Assist teachers in understanding and using the core issues through small learning groups and individualized coach/teacher conferring.
Support teachers on an ongoing basis to lead rich classroom discussions, teach students how to analyze and interpret text, work effectively with ELL students and struggling learners.
Use the Principles of Learning as the framework for rigorous classroom instruction.
Ground all instruction practices in relevant research, district standards, and assessment data.
Use the Criteria for Coaching Practice as the framework for coaching interactions.
Share responsibility for student learning with each teacher.
Build a collaborative partnership with the principal.
Facilitate teacher learning groups, confer individually with teachers.
Contribute to school and district professional development.
Participate in coaching labs to refine own practice.
Performs other appropriate duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYEMNT:
Ten-month year teaching position. Compensation is according to placement on NC teacher salary schedule and applicable local supplement.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job is evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the School Board policy on Evaluation of teaching personnel.
