JOB SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction and Program Coordinator, the primary role of the Instructional Coach-Mathematics is to support teaching and learning through modeling, coaching and professional development to improve and accelerate student achievement through quality curriculum and instruction. The Instructional Coach-Mathematics is a certified, highly-qualified teacher who demonstrates leadership skills and has expertise in curriculum, instructional strategies, classroom management, and adult learning theory.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR CERTIFICATION:
1.State of Illinois Professional Educator License with
a. Self-Contained General Education and/or required Endorsement for Grade Level
2.Mathematics certification or 18 hours in mathematics preferred;
3.Five or more years of successful teaching experience at the elementary level preferred;
4.Knowledge of adult learning processes and strategies;
5.Demonstrated facilitation experience in providing adult professional development preferred;
6.Demonstrated experience with RtI and tiered instruction;
7.Excellent oral and written communication skills;
8.Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills required;
9.Superior problem-solving and critical thinking skills;
10. Comprehensive knowledge of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics; and
11. Knowledge of the process of educational change.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Research and provide content knowledge and resources to staff about learning and teaching mathematics-including:
a. Teaching strategies;
b. Assessment of mathematical skills;
c. Interpretation of assessment results, etc.
2.Research and prepare materials for use by the district, schools, and teachers-including:
a. Teaching strategies;
b. Assessment of mathematical skills;
c. Interpretation of assessment results, etc.
3.Ensure professional development materials are aligned with best practices in adult learning, including clearly outlined learning outcomes and methods for assessing acquisition and application of skills.
4.Ensure professional development training and coaching activities are grounded in research based best practices.
5.Provide support for the ongoing development, improvement and evaluation of the district's instructional programs.
6.Assist the Program Coordinator in the development and implementation of the Common Core State Standards and continuing professional development.
7.Develop strategies for helping teachers make changes in instructional practices, assisting in the identification of student needs and the differentiation of instructional support.
8.Research and provide information and guidance regarding a range of effective and innovative mathematical practices through various activities such as:
a. Individual discussions;
b. Coaching sessions;
c. Demonstration lessons with pre-and post-discussion/analysis;
d. Study groups;
e. Staff meetings; and
f. Professional development programs
9.Maintain paperwork consistently, appropriately and in a timely manner.
10. Facilitate pilot process for instructional materials.
11. Team with classrooms and academic support teachers to guide the implementation of learning centers, the differentiation of student assignments, and the assessment of student performance.
12. Maintain appropriate confidentiality.
13. Provide professional development at all district levels.
14. Work with the Program Coordinator to evaluate and enhance the mathematics curriculum for the Joliet Public Schools District 86.
15. Maintain commitment to ongoing professional development.

9.Ability to meet strict deadlines.

Employee experiences constant interruptions and inflexible deadlines. The noise level in this environment is quiet to moderate. Duties are performed primarily indoors and occasionally outdoors. In-district and out-of-town travel required as necessary for training and/or to carry out duties and responsibilities.
