Instructional Coach for Special Services
Reports To: Assistant Superintendent
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY:
The Instructional Coach for Special Services is a part time position (20 hours per week) and will work directly with the Personalized Learning Team to support teachers. The position includes being assigned to various schools on a rotating basis. The coach will also work directly with the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction to ensure a cohesive and unified strategy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists classroom teachers with instruction techniques for students with special learning needs and provides coaching on overall special services program supports;
- Trains school staff on how to fully comprehend IEP's and create appropriate modification/accommodation plans,
- Prepares school staff to effectively advocate for their students at PPT meetings
- Coaches teachers on how to apply targeted intervention strategies for students as part of an overall classroom strategy;
- Supports teachers with differentiated instruction;
- Provides guidance with additional special education-related issues that may arise;
- Offers personalized support to teachers;
- Models effective teaching strategies;
- Assists educators in analyzing student data;
- Completes other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum bachelor's degree in special education
- Minimum two years' experience working with students with special learning needs
- Practicing Catholic preferred
- Knowledge of behavior management techniques
- Compassionate and approachable personality
- Strong sense of direction, communication, professionalism, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain a high level of discretion and handle details of confidential nature
- Ability to complete work in a timely, accurate and thorough manner with minimal oversight
- Ability to organize work efficiently, work under pressure and effectively manage multiple priorities
- Excellent writing, proofing and editing skills
- Solid problem solving and time management skills
. Excellent communications skills by phone and in person
- Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to interact and collaborate with diverse groups of people
- Conscientious and highly organized with sharp attention to detail
- Ability to work required schedule (during the school day)
- Requires coordination and manual dexterity, normal mental and visual ability; ability to lift as required in a normal office and school building environments
- Walking, sitting standing, bending, reaching, talking, handling, hearing, carrying, keyboarding, etc.
- Ability to travel to school buildings within Fairfield County and/or professional meetings as required.
