JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Instructional Coach will provide instructional support to all teachers and students by co-teaching, mentoring and modeling in classrooms. S/he will collaborate and support teachers in using the curriculum to analyze students' strengths and target areas for improvement. S/he will provide support for school reform initiatives by identifying and assisting in the implementation and dissemination of effective instructional practices. Creates an environment favorable to learning and personal growth of students enrolled in an education setting. Establishes effective rapport with students. Motivates students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for becoming a responsible citizen in accordance with each pupil's ability.

This is a grant funded position and is not eligible for tenure.

Continuation of this position will be contingent upon funding and will be evaluated on a yearly basis.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works collaboratively with teachers, administrators, parents, school and agency counselors and related service providers in the overall educational plan for students enrolled in the education setting

  • Assists in the development and implementation of the individual education service and transition plan for students enrolled in the education setting

  • Instructs students in a program of study which meets stated objectives and prepares students to master grade level standards

  • Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and policies and procedures of Birmingham City Schools

  • Collaborates with the teacher of record to develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with curriculum standards; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students

  • Translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction and to actively engage students

  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom by providing positive reinforcement of acceptable behaviors and modifying unacceptable behaviors

  • Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary

  • Communicates regularly with parents or guardians through conferences and other means to discuss student progress

  • Supervises and monitors student movement and escorts students to resources, bathrooms, buses, cafeteria, room changes and other activities in the building

  • Administers standardized testing

  • Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities

  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university

  • A valid Alabama Teacher's Certificate

  • Must meet Every Student Succeed Act (ESSA) federal and state requirements or a willingness to meet the requirements within the designated timeframe

  • SUCH ALTERNATIVES TO THE ABOVE QUALIFICATIONS AS THE BOARD MAY REQUIRE.

Salary Range: From/To Certified Salary Schedule 16 (Level 1-4) ($45,869 - $92,035)
