Under general supervision, to assist a certificated teacher in the education, training, caretaking, and supervision of severely disabled and/or physically disabled students; to assist in the implementation of self-help, social, and community skills; incumbents perform a variety of duties both in and out of the classroom and play a major role in caring for the physical needs of the students and perform a variety of clerical duties in support of the instructional program. Employees in this classification receive general supervision from an assigned administrator and work on a day-to-day basis with a certificated teacher within a well-defined framework of policies and procedures.
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school; formal or informal education sufficient to read, write, and communicate at the level required for successful job performance; and some successful recent experience interacting with disabled youth. Valid California Class C driver's license. The successful candidate must be cleared by the Department of Justice prior to employment as required by law.
