POSITION TITLE: Instructional Assistant - Santiam Learning Center

REPORTS TO: Santiam Jr./Sr.

High School Adminstration

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 8 hours per day, 160 contract days per year with benefits as specified in the Classified Agreement.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Meet the No Child Left Behind requirements: Two-year degree or college coursework OR successfully passed the Oregon Paraprofessional Exam. If you have not taken the exam and want to, we can help with setting that up.
Successful prior experience working with children.

Santiam Canyon is located in the beautiful foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range and proudly serves the communities of Mill City, Gates, Detroit, Idanha and surrounding areas. Located close to Salem and other larger towns, Santiam Jr./Sr.

High School is an ideal location to teach and collaborate with educational professionals helping students achieve their limitless potential. This position is responsible for providing academic skill development to a variety of students in a classroom setting. We are looking for an enthusiastic team player who can stand together with us as we help our students find their path to success. Santiam operates on a 4 day school week and teacher contracts are for 170 work days.

Position Summary:

The Instructional Assistant will be responsible for managing and running the Santiam Learning Center. The Santiam Learning Center includes a tutorial center, student workspace, an Aspire Center and running student discipline.

This role includes providing academic support, career counseling, and coordinating various programs and activities aimed at student success. The ideal candidate will have a passion for education, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with students, staff, and the Santiam Canyon community.

Key Responsibilities:
Santiam Canyon Learning Center:
Assist students with their academic needs, including tutoring and homework help
Maintain a positive and productive learning environment
Facilitate in-school suspension and lunch detention, ensuring students remain engaged in their academic work and adhere to school policies
Aspire Center:
Coordinate the Aspire Program, working closely with school counselor
Provide guidance on college applications, scholarships, and financial aid
Help students develop resumes, cover letters, and job applications
Organize college visits, career fairs, and informational sessions
Facilitate career exploration activities and job shadowing opportunities
In-School Suspension:
Enforce school rules and behavior plans
Monitor students to maintain a calm and controlled environment
Manage student assignments and attendance
OTHER ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policy(ies) and procedures.
Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records and inquiries.
Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
Complies with applicable District, state, local and federal laws, rules and regulations.
Attends work regularly and is punctual.
Other duties may be assigned.
