INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT IV- BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS AIDE

BASIC FUNCTION

Under the immediate supervision of the Coordinator of Special Education the Instructional Assistant-Behavioral Analysis Aide will assist teachers and Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) with intensive behavioral intervention and perform a variety of activities in support of special instructional programs.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

? Support the instructional program by assisting in the supervision, care, and instruction of students with autism and/or serious behavior difficulties; assists in the implementation of plans for instruction, monitoring student behavior, documenting activities and progress, and supporting students' IEP goals E;

? Implement under the direction of supervising instructional staff, instructional and behavioral plans designed by the IEP team for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts E;

? Collects data and records anecdotal student progress and maintains and organizes data notebooks for the purpose of on-going instructional and behavior intervention planning and review E;

? Maintains appropriate records to preserve the history and progress of behavioral strategies E;

? Confers and interacts with the Coordinator of Special Education, program specialist, school psychologists, and BCBA's. Provides input on student performance, progress and behavior E;

? Participates as a positive team member for the purpose of enhancing and sharing knowledge and skills for the delivery of best practices E;

? Monitors students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments, including both 1:1 and embedded-in-class routines for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment E;

? When working with students with severe disabilities, may be required to assist students with toileting needs, including but not limited to toileting and diapering E;

? Perform routine first aid including emergency treatment of students experiencing seizures or respiratory problems E;

? Maintain confidentiality of student records and information according to established guidelines E;

? Participate in staff meetings and inservice training programs as assigned E;

? Perform related duties as assigned E.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

Principles and techniques of Applied Behavior Analysis;

Techniques used in the assessment and treatment of disabilities;

Instructional procedures and practices;

Age appropriate student activities;

Safety practices and procedures;

Stages of child development and behavior;

Document requirements for special education students and programs;

Ability to:

Assist teaching staff with implementation of instructional goals and activities;

Apply principles of positive reinforcement and applied behavior analysis;

Interact with teachers, parents, and specialists in order to carry out assigned duties;

Relate positively to students in a teaching/learning environment in a way that builds confidence, recognizes and works on learning disabilities and barriers;

Understand the follow oral and written directions;

Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures;

Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships;

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any combination equivalent to: Graduation from High School supplemented by training and coursework in applied behavioral strategies; Additionally a minimum of one year working in a classroom environment containing students with special needs and specialized training and experience implementing positive behavior supports.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

A valid driver's license is required.

A valid first aid card is required.

Completion of a structured course in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)

Environment:

Indoor and outdoor

Physical Abilities:

Sitting or standing for extended period of time;

Bending at the waist;

Kneeling or crouching to assist students;

Hearing and speaking to exchange information and make presentations;

Seeing to read assignments and to monitor student activities;

Lifting heavy, non-compliant students.

Hazards:

Contact with dissatisfied or abusive students who bite, kick and slap;

Potential exposure to communicable diseases and contact with blood and other body fluids.
