SUMMARY: To assist teachers in the implementation of instructional programs in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.

EDUCATION/LICENSE/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma

  • Possess computer skills in Word, Spreadsheets, and Data Entry.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Under supervision of an assigned teacher and building principal, assist in managing behavior and procedures that are conducive for learning (classroom, halls, restrooms, lunch, etc.).

  • Under supervision of an assigned teacher, assist in planning and directing learning activities.

  • Under supervision of an assigned teacher, assist in working with small groups of learners, in order to meet educational needs of students.

  • Assist in meeting the physical needs of students (e.g, assisting in meeting the needs of physically challenged students).

  • Under the supervision of an assigned teacher, assist in the management and organizational requirements of instruction (running off materials, setting up materials for group work, recording attendance, recording grades, etc.).

  • Participate in in-service training programs designed to upgrade knowledge and skills that will assist in meeting the educational, physical, social, or emotional needs of students.

  • Have the content skills needed to successfully be able to assist an assigned teacher in meeting the academic needs of students.

  • Be able to effectively work with assigned teachers, parents, and students in order to meet the academic, social, physical, and emotional needs of students.

  • And any other duties as deemed necessary by their supervisor.

  • Under the supervision of an assigned teacher, be able to complete duties specific to an aide's position in any of the following areas: Journeys, Title I, Pathways, Point, Special Education, Pre-School, Self-Contained, or As Assigned

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, parents and/or staff.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts appropriate to the duties assigned.

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.

Ability to use appropriate language and accompanying techniques with adolescents on one-to-one basis as well as in groups.

Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously required to sit and talk or hear. Occasionally the employee will repeat the same hand, arm or finger motion many times.

The employee must sometimes lift and/or move up to 20-30 pounds. The employee must be able to attend meetings in the evening and at other locations. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
