REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: Under the direction of the assigned supervisor and the supervision of the site principal and certificated teacher, reinforce teacher's lesson plans working with English Language Learners (ELs) in small groups or on a one to one basis; using the student's primary language, the aide provides instructional support in the acquisition of the core curriculum and with English Language development Incumbents assigned to this classification differ from other instructional classifications by the requirement to understand, speak, read, and write in a language other than English.
While the majority of assistants are assigned to one classroom, an assistant may work in multiple classrooms, grade levels and curriculum. This position provides instructional support to the student, but the full responsibility for appropriate instruction, curriculum, materials and evaluation remains with the teacher.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and demonstrated experience working with youth in an organized setting.
Some positions in this class may be required to possess of valid California Driver's License during course of employment; must be insurable at standard rates and maintain such insurability during the course of employment.
