REPORTS TO: SCHOOL DIRECTOR
BASIC FUNCTION:
Classes at Summit Academy Schools typically consist of eighteen to twenty-five students with a teacher and an Intervention Specialist and/or Instructional Assistant. The primary role of the teacher is to teach the curriculum to the students; however, he/she is ultimately responsible for the activities and behaviors of the entire class. The role of the Instructional Assistant is to assist the teacher in the day-to-day functions of the classroom. The Instructional Assistant is responsible for co-teaching materials under the supervision of the general education teacher, actively participating in instruction, tutoring, and assisting in monitoring the classroom.
EMPLOYMENT MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Obtain and maintain Educational Aide permit though Ohio Department of Education
Ability to work with children who have special needs
Ability to work with people
Appropriate criminal records check by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal
Identification and Investigation and/or Federal Bureau of Investigation
Meets all health requirements as mandated by law
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with all employees
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist teacher in the implementation of instructional activities including co-teaching and tutoring small groups of students
Participate in appropriate staff development activities to provide for professional growth
Monitor student behavior and assist in classroom management plan for classroom
Must be available to participate in after-school functions such as open houses, conferences or meetings•Assist teacher/school director in maintaining a clean and safe school environment
Supervise students during transition time, lunch recess, bus duty, dismissal, assemblies, field trips, speakers
Responsible for de-escalating student negative behaviors, using a variety of methods depending upon the needs of the individual student
Maintain observation records as directed by teachers/administration
Track student behavior
Provide accurate and timely information as requested by teacher/administration
Report dangerous behaviors/environments to school director or administration immediately
Report any suspicion of child abuse and neglect through proper channels.
Insure that all school records and observations are accurate, secure, and comply with Privacy Act and ORC 3319.321
Maintain confidentiality regarding student information
Take measures to insure student information is kept secure (i.e., talking in an area where information may be overheard by others).
Suggest to instructor any accommodation that would better meet a student's needs
Provides instructor with input regarding student behavior, academic performance and IEP progress
Communicate student concerns with teacher/staff as needed.
Perform any other task or activity as directed by administration.
All other responsibilities as set forth by the Building Director and CEO.
