DEFINITION Under general supervision to perform paraprofessional instructional activities and assist in educational programs for handicapped pupils or other exceptional students; to assist in the provision of intensified learning experience for students including programs for limited English QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS To perform a job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Essential Duties: •Assists the Special Education teacher in implementation of the IEP through the instructional program. •Assists in educating special education, exceptional and bilingual students. •Assists teachers and program coordinators with the presentation of learning materials by tutoring individual or small groups of students. •Monitors achievement, but shall not grade students. •Administers and scores tests and activities. •Assists in preparing record keeping materials and curriculum. •Maintains a record log on each student as required. •Maintains a contact log for parent communications. •Assists in the preparation of materials, tests, and curriculum. •Schedules and attends parent and teacher conferences as prescribed by the teacher or supervisor. •Maintains confidentiality with regard to student records and information. •Demonstrate sensitivity, compassion and patience for pupils assigned to the program. •Maintain a positive attitude and reinforce students' improvements by assisting students to develop appropriate work habits and attitudes. •Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with pupils, staff and parents. •Give fair, firm and consistent supervision of pupils. •Performs general clerical duties including typing, filing, and recording, etc. •Assists with home visits to relate information to parents and assists students as assigned. •May maintain vocational program records and provide assistance as assigned. •Schedule meetings and appointments as assigned. •Assists in preparation and types psychological-educational reports from drafts. •Assists with filing all yearly reports and three year evaluations. •Translates records, reports, and parent conferences and assists to interpret the rights of the parents as specified in regulations. •May fix copy machines. Other Duties. •Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Principal.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CHARACTERISTICS Physical, mental, and emotional stamina to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position; manual dexterity sufficient to write, use the telephone and business machines; vision sufficient to read printed materials; hearing sufficient to communicate in person and hold telephone conversations; speaking ability in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversational distances on the telephone and addressing groups; physical agility to push/pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop, and to reach overhead; physical mobility sufficient to move about the work environment (office, district, school site to site), drive an automobile, and to respond to emergency situations; physical strength sufficient to lift 30 pounds alone or more with assistance; physical stamina sufficient to sit for prolonged periods of time; physical tolerance to dust; mental acuity to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: •Education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. •One or more years of paid or volunteer experience working with computers and pupils, desirable; •Any combination of training and experience that could likely provide the desired knowledge and abilities, including demonstrated experience in successfully working with students and young adults in learning situations. •College level training is desirable and incumbents are expected to avail themselves of specialized adult school courses in this field. •Bilingual is desirable. Knowledge of:. •District policies, procedures, regulations, and resources. •Office methods and equipment, including receptionist, telephone, letter and report writing techniques. •Techniques of student supervision. •English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Ability to: •Use technology and computer software applications appropriate to the work environment. •Interact with and maintain cooperative relationships with all levels of staff and the public. •Communicate effectively in English and designated language, both orally and in writing. •Understand and carry out oral and written directions without immediate supervision. •Meet schedules and time lines. •Prepare and maintain accurate clerical records.
