Instructional Aide

Duties

To assist the teachers in providing supplementary instruction, skill reinforcement, remedial instruction, supervision and enrichment to individuals or groups of students facilitated by the classroom teacher and/or learning consultant. The Instructional Aide is responsible to the Principal and assists the teacher and Learning Consultant in meeting the diverse needs of students or classes.

The Instructional Aide will work directly with teachers and students to provide academic support, data collection, and observational input as requested. Special training will be given to the instructional aide by the learning consultant, teachers, and peer coaches regarding these tasks.

Qualifications

A teaching degree or experience is desired but not required. The Instructional Aide should enjoy working with children.

He/she should be able to follow directions in learning to implement lessons, collect data, or to supervise activities as determined by the classroom teacher with consultation and training from the learning consultant. She/he should have a good understanding of the developmental needs of the age child with whom they are working. He/she should be capable of supervising students and maintaining order in a positive way.

Primary Responsibilities:

Instruction:

1.To provide remedial help or reinforcement of skills to individuals or small groups of students on skills or activities as determined by the classroom teacher.

2.To administer tests to who need to test with alternative methods, under the supervision of the classroom teacher and guidance of the learning consultant.

3.To work with teachers in monitoring progress and behavior. (fluency assessments, on-task checklists, etc)

4.To carry out, appropriate elements of academic plan or behavioral plan within the context of the student profile or intervention plan for students identified by the learning consultant.

5.To complete communication logs for outside agencies, tutors, or parents as determined by learning consultant.

Management:

1.To maintain a positive learning climate.

2.To provide positive reinforcement and Christian witness.

3.To support the discipline policies of the school.
