7 hours per day / 196 days per year / 11 months per year

Under supervision of Speech Pathologist, the Instructional Aide III - Speech Therapy will perform a variety of speech therapy related activities; assist in speech therapy services to children with speech and language disabilities; perform a variety of routine clerical and supportive activities for Speech Pathologist; do other related work as required.

Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

Training or coursework in speech therapy, child growth and development, special education, instructional technology, or a closely related field, preferred. Experience: Three (3) years of comparable work experience working with children of various age levels requiring a specialized learning environment. License and Certificate Requirements:

Possess or secure within six (6) months of employment a certificate for first aide and CPR issued by the American Red Cross or equivalent. Certificate of Competency/Speech Assistant Certification program to be completed within the probationary period. Attach any documents that you feel will help demonstrate that you meet the minimum qualifications listed above (i.e. resume, transcript, diploma). Documents you wish to attach should be uploaded via EDJOIN by the filing deadline in order to be considered in the hiring process (pertains to current employees also). A scanner to upload required documents is available in the Human Resources office located at 1330 Truxtun Ave., Bakersfield, CA 93301. •The documents will be scanned and emailed to the candidate.

Examinations will be weighted 30% for written and 70% for oral. Candidates must obtain a composite score of 70% or better to qualify for the eligibility list. Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operator's license.

Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter, as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act. This position has a probationary period of six months or 130 days in paid service, whichever is longer.
