Position Summary

Portland Community College is currently seeking an Instructional Administrative Assistant II for

the tutoring center at the Rock Creek campus. Our institution is dedicated to fostering a culture

The Instructional Administrative Assistant II role at the Tutoring Center will involve offering

crucial administrative support for tutoring services and curricular assistance at the Rock Creek

campus. The successful candidate will play an active role in supporting the Reading and Writing

Center, as well as the STEAM Center at Rock Creek. Responsibilities will include coordinating

activities and tasks, collaborating to improve educational outcomes, and addressing the diverse

needs of students and staff.

Candidate Profile

These qualifications, skills and abilities are critical for success in this position.

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to guide and coordinate the activities of work study and student workers.

  • Skill and ability producing complex reports using Banner, Argos and Google Suite. Ability to provide information and guidance to students, staff, faculty, and the community on PCC resources and processes.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work collaboratively as a member of a team.

  • Strong commitment to learning about cultural competency and supporting students, faculty, and staff and those from communities with historically marginalized identities, including, but not limited to: first generation students, students of color, queer and transgender students, and low-income students.

  • Participates in ongoing reflection and professional development to grow awareness of one's own cultural background and how it influences perceptions, values, and practices and engages in the way they shape their relationship to students and staff.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

  • High school diploma or equivalent and three years of administrative support experience or one year in a position equivalent to Instructional Administrative Assistant I

  • College or business school training may be substituted for up to two years of the administrative experience requirement.

  • Knowledge of: Contemporary office practices, procedures and techniques; spelling, vocabulary, math and grammar skills; use and operation of personal computers and associated standard office software, basic customer service standards and principles; other office resources and equipment including phones and telecommunications systems, fax machines, copy machines, TTY devices; general knowledge of the administrative requirement associated with delivering academic programs and services in an educational environment.

  • Ability to: Develop and maintain effective working relationships; effectively evaluate a situation or issue and develop sound working solutions; maintain a reliable and dependable attendance record; provide effective and responsive service to department customers and contacts; perform all assigned tasks efficiently and accurately and create and maintain accurate records; possess and demonstrate the required level of proficiency in desktop computers and other assigned software or electronic resources, including the Intranet and Internet, as assigned; learn and utilize Banner and ARGOS;create and maintain accurate and up-to-date records.

  • Other equivalent combinations of experience and training will be considered.

Position Grade 17 Starting Salary Expectations The first two steps of the range are: $45,909 to $47,287 per year. Higher salary placement may be available based on qualifications, experience and internal equity. Position Grade Salary Range $45,909 to $73,673 FTE 1 PCC Benefits

PCC currently fully funds the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS/OPSRP) pension and contributes an additional 6% into the employee's Individual Account Program under PERS/OPSRP. PCC offers a tax deferred annuity program and a deferred compensation program where employees may save additional pre-tax dollars for retirement.

Additionally, PCC provides a tuition waiver for yourself, domestic partner, and dependent children under 24 years of age. Partial tuition reimbursement for yourself at other accredited institutions (full-time employees only).

Paid Leave: (Pro-rated by FTE for Part-Time Employees)

  • Starts at 8 hours of vacation leave per month (additional vacation hours with years of service)
  • 8 hours of sick leave per month
  • 24 hours of additional personal leave days per year
  • 12 Paid holidays

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Work is generally performed in an office environment with frequent interruptions or changes in work flow. Occasional lifting, guiding, or carrying of light-weight materials or equipment may be required. Position involves sitting for extended periods of time while working at a computer terminal. Learned physical skill is required to perform keyboarding and/or ten-key functions.
