Description
Thomson-Hood Veterans Center is a 285-bed long-term care facility that has served more than 2,782 Veterans from all branches of the armed forces since admitting the first resident on August 25, 1991. Thomson-Hood is the largest facility operated by the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs.
The Thomson-Hood Veterans Center is looking for a self-motivated Energetic Institutional Recreation Leader II that has the desire to care for Kentucky's Veterans.
Job duties include but are not limited to:
Plans, promotes and coordinates and leads therapeutic Recreational Activities for assigned units.
Completes quarterley reviews on each resident to monitor their recreational needs and participation.
Develops treatment plans to meet resident needs and attends treatment team meetings.
Organizes and supervises recreational outings including supervision of residents, staff and volunteers involved in outings.
Completes initial assessments on new resident to assess their therapeutic recreational needs.
Directs Activity Aides during the therapeutic recreational outings. Acts as Recreation program supervisor in the absence of the program supervisor.
Responsible for maintaining Therapeutic Recreational Calendars for assigned unit.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education, special education or a related field.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Three years of experience in planned recreation, physical education, special education, or a related field.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's degree in recreation, physical education, special education, or a related field will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in planned recreation, physical education, special education, or a related field will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE
Working Conditions
Typically works in an institutional or hospital facility. Will typically coordinate recreational personnel either indoors or in an outdoor setting.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
