GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: To perform a variety of duties involved in the care, custody, and treatment of physically ill persons, people with an intellectual and developmental disability or people admitted or committed to a state institution; or, to perform a variety of duties in a program for the care, custody, guidance, and development of people with an intellectual and developmental disability; to perform routine custodial and related work in and about the buildings and grounds of a state institution; and to do related work as required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the supervision of a superior from whom work assignments of a routine nature are merely outlined with specific instructions given on each new or unusual assignment; may be under the supervision of an employee of equal rank, when such an employee is responsible for the work being performed in other than usual quarters; work is subject to review in process and upon completion for compliance with accepted institutional standards; attends all advertised in-service classes when on duty (minimum of twelve hours). SUPERVISION EXERCISED: May supervise patients, inmate helpers, or residents; or on occasion may supervise other attendants while assigned specific responsibilities.

To take and record the temperature, pulse, and respirations of patients at prescribed intervals.

To assist registered nurses and/or practical nurses in administering minor treatments, medications, and to be responsible for changing simple dressings. To lift helpless patients on and off stretchers and beds and into and out of a variety of specialized equipment. To report unusual occurrences, irregularities, and accidents to a superior.

To make regular rounds during an assigned shift, arousing patients when required, noting unusual patient or inmate behavioral patterns. To assist in the preparation of bodies of deceased patients or inmates for delivery to the morgue or to an undertaking establishment. To arouse, bathe, dress, and groom patients or to prepare patients for bed To antiseptically clean bedpans and other equipment utilized in the care and treatment of patients, inmates or residents.

To exercise patients and to escort them to and from operating rooms, clinics and other locations as may be required. To participate in the food service to patients at mealtimes, feeding patients who require such service. To supervise a variety of recreational or therapeutic activities of patients, including instruction in simple handicrafts.

To search building, grounds, area for missing patients. To do related paperwork, patients worksheets. To maintain patients' area keeping it clean and safe.

To provide ostomy care. To maintain external and indwelling catheters. To assist nurses during emergencies.

To exchange large O2 tanks, refill small O2 tasks. To move trash when applicable to the dumpster and linen to linen receptacles. To apply braces to limbs prosthetic appliances.

To assist in evacuation of the facility during a fire emergency. To transport patients to appointments or therapies in the building. To participate in unit staff meetings.

To utilize state of the art electronic equipment to record data in patients' records with appropriate training. To do related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND CAPACITIES: A familiarity with the practices involved in patient care, including those relating to first aid, housekeeping, and personal needs; a familiarity with the practices involved in the care and custody of persons admitted or committed to a state institution for care and treatment; ability to participate in care and development programs for people with an intellectual and developmental disability; ability to learn and to perform a variety of routine hospital tasks involved in the care and custody of such persons; the ability to understand and carry out simple oral and written instructions; and related capacities and abilities.


Education: Sufficient to ensure ability to read, write, and speak English; and

Experience: Such as may have been gained through: employment involving the opportunity to gain a familiarity with routine hospital or institutional procedures.

Or, any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: At the time of appointment must be registered as a Certified Nursing Assistant by the Rhode Island Department of Health per the General Laws of Rhode Island and must maintain such registration as a condition of employment.

This position is primarily responsible for set up, service, break down and clean up of multiple functions or areas on campus.</p><p>General Standards</p><p>Interact professionally with other employees, customers, and suppliers.</p><p>Perform quality work within deadlines, with or without direct supervision.</p><p>Work effectively as a team leader on all assignments.</p><p>Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.</p><p>Sanitation</p><p>Maintain sanitation and orderliness of all equipment, supplies and utensils within work area.</p><p>Set up and Preparation</p><p>Ensure that all necessary food items have identifiers or menus, displayed in a clean and consistent manner.</p><p>Set up buffet tables as well as food, beverage, and service items according to pre-established Great Expectations Catering standards.</p><p>Handle food items appropriately during preparation.</p><p>Housekeeping Service</p><p>Clean tables and chairs before, during, and after meal service, as assigned.</p><p>Clean workstation thoroughly before leaving the area for other assignments.</p><p>Keep display equipment, buffets, and tables clean and free of debris during meal service, as assigned.</p><p>Break down events by cleaning and packing unused food dishes, utensils. and equipment for safe removal to appropriate locations.</p><p>Handle trash and waste properly per unit standards.</p><p>Customer Service</p><p>Greet customers courteously, and interact with customers in a manner to ensure customer satisfaction.</p><p>Interact with customers and resolve customer complaints in a friendly and service oriented manner.
