POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is in the Office of Executive Investigations, Election Crime Unit in the Orlando Regional Operations Center. This is a full-time position that conducts complex investigations from various origins.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific duties include:

  • Conducting complex election fraud/election crime investigations from various origins including but not limited to, the Florida Department of State and Supervisor of Elections. When not working on election related investigations, will be assigned and prioritize investigations referred by other state agencies or the Chief Inspector General. When not working primary or priority investigations, will work public corruption investigations as needed;

  • Professional investigative techniques, i.e., establishment of an investigative plan, interviews, record inquiries, subpoenas, collection and security of evidence, surveillance, etc., are always properly identified and applied in pursuit of pre-established goals. Close adherence is always made to applicable law, policy and procedure related to all investigations;

  • Each investigation is expeditiously pursued, and all case activity is documented accurately, comprehensively, and completely with grammatical correctness in a timely fashion following established procedures;

  • Demonstrating the ability to research, review, and recommend appropriate action to resolve complaints. Complaints will be properly documented, and referral documents and correspondence will be prepared in an efficient and error free fashion; and

  • On all occasions as required, the Inspector must demonstrate an ability to provide accurate oral or written testimony or summaries of investigations for official proceedings or reviews by the Office of the Commissioner, the Office of the Governor, and as appropriate, agency heads and involved State Attorneys.

To be considered as a potential candidate, you must meet the minimum qualifications(s) listed below. Degrees must be from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Five years of sworn law enforcement or sworn investigative experience, one of which must have been in the capacity of a Special Agent with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

  • College education from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours per year for a maximum of three years of the required experience.

NOTE: Experience as a Special Agent Trainee or a Probationary Special Agent does not count toward the one year of Special Agent experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of and ability to utilize legal, acceptable and effective investigative techniques;

  • Knowledge and understanding of law, criminal and administrative procedure applicable to general and internal investigations;

  • Knowledge and understanding of the government structure for the State of Florida;

  • Skills in oral and written reporting and documentation;

  • Ability to comprehend and retain critical facts;

  • Ability to verbally communicate results/progress of investigative activity in an effective and efficient manner;

  • Ability to establish investigative goals and objectives; and

  • Ability to plan, prioritize and implement necessary steps to accomplish such goals and objectives.

BASE SALARY:

  • $65,714.00

NOTES:

Starting salary will be at the minimum of the class pay range, unless otherwise dictated by FDLE's pay policy. The elements of this selection process may include a work sample and/or interview. Future vacancies may be filled from this position advertisement.
