Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drive revenue growth of Derwent products and solutions by meeting or exceeding both new sales and retention goals on monthly and quarterly basis

  • Focus on customer relationships to ensure retention of existing revenue, while widening product usage and increasing the customer penetration for business segment.

  • Drive usage and customer satisfaction by upgrading to state of the art platforms, providing ongoing support and training coordination

  • Analyze client needs and develops strategies tailored to each organization.

  • Maintain, develop and grow a rigorous pipeline, with accurate forecasting.

  • Pursue business opportunities through various prospecting and account development/growth activities.

  • Negotiate and close business segment customer contracts.

  • Create and manage a territory development plan and reports on results.

  • Utilize knowledge of intellectual property to conceive and position value-added solutions to promote business growth in the corporation and to lift growth in Derwent revenues.

  • Contribute to the development of new sales revenues and client retention by identifying potential sales and retention opportunities, conducting in pre-sales calls, delivering customized presentations, creating written proposals and providing subject-matter expertise.

  • Build strong "trust" relationships with clients, creating trust and confidence at multiple levels, including users, key contacts, managers and business leaders, to increase revenue and sales opportunities.

  • Capture and record customer information and sales activity data into customer relationship management (CRM) system and appropriate business systems

  • Maintain and report regularly on a pipeline of sales activity, revenue forecasts and closing timetables.

  • Operate as an integral member of the North American sales team, contributing skills and knowledge to the development of accounts.

  • Obtain competitive information during daily contacts and distributes as appropriate so as to develop sales strategies.

  • Proactively work with internal support groups to ensure a coordinated and effective sales effort.

  • Assist in establishing product development priorities based on customer experience.

Qualifications:

  • BS/BA or equivalent relevant work experience

  • Prior intellectual property knowledge and familiarity with the patents lifecycle is desired

  • 2 plus years sales experience in a consultative selling environment

  • Proven track record developing accounts through cons

Main Purpose of Job: We are looking for a consultative sales professional who excels in finding and acquiring new clients while maintaining existing relationships to achieve revenue and retention targets. This role will focus on sales of our industry-leading research management software on a transactional and subscription (SaaS) basis. This role will develop new business, increase sales revenue, manage existing accounts, and maintain ongoing client relationships. This role will meet assigned revenue and productivity targets including new business sales from cold and warm lead sources, lead generation, lead qualification, trial support, renewals of existing clients, and market research activities. This role will close business independently and may close business in assistance with other sales teams. This role will engage in sales activities via telephone, email, and social media with primary focus on the academic, non-profit, government, and corporate markets in the United States and Canada. This role is an inside sales role based in our Philadelphia office and may require occasional travel to clients or industry events in United States or Canada. Candidates are expected to be competent with solution selling principles and practices and demonstrate a high level of professionalism to both clients and work colleagues. Previous experience in inside sales and/or software sales is a plus but not mandatory. Candidates are expected to be able to develop new business and revenue streams within their territory and will have further developed existing accounts for new business opportunities in new buying centers. Key Responsibilities: * Identify, generate, and close new business opportunities through a variety of strategic prospecting and account development activities. * Present our products and services to current, former, and potential clients through cold calling, warm calling, email, social media activities, and incoming leads from our 800 number and websites. * Assume full sales and account management responsibility for an assigned group of customers within an assigned territory. * Proactively manage end-to-end business development process, including sales pipeline management. * Demonstrate and apply expert level of consultative selling skills and ability to navigate a sales process through its entire life cycle. * Protect core business through retaining current customer spend as well as maximizing potential spend through new business sales and additional sales to existing clients. * Maintain working knowledge of our products, special sales programs, and marketing efforts within the sales team. * Record and monitor success of all sales activities by detailing information on all activity in Salesforce.com and other CRM tools. * Represent business unit and company at trade association meetings and trade shows to promote our products on an as-needed basis. * Other responsibilities as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Capabilities Required: * College degree is preferred, and degree in a scientific discipline is a plus. * Minimum one year inside sales experience preferred. * Minimum one year software sales experience preferred, and experience in SaaS sales is a plus. * Proficiency with Salesforce.com is preferred. * Experience in lead generation, cold calling, and prospecting via phone, email, and social media a plus. * Experience selling to the academic, non-profit, corporate, and/or government markets a plus. * Enthusiastic and energetic self-starter who takes initiative and generates own ideas on finding new business and growing the overall business. * Familiarity with navigating multiple levels of an organization to establish contact with key decision makers. * Exceptional written and oral communication skills and telephone, email, and social media contact skills. * Self-motivated, energetic, with strong organizational skills, time management skills, and attention to detail. * Ability to meet individual goals and objectives while working as part of a larger sales team. * Working knowledge of MS Office, internet, and social media. * Ability to travel in United States or Canada (up to 10%).
