Description Inpatient Nutritionist-Mount Sinai Morningside Under the direction of Clinical Nutrition leadership (Senior Director, Director, Clinical Nutrition Manager), provides quality nutrition care and education to patients and family members. Assesses the nutritional status of patients and recommends the appropriate nutrition therapy as it pertains to the patients' nutritional needs.
Provides nutrition counseling to patients and family members as indicated. Adheres to department and hospital philosophies, standards, objectives, and policies and procedures. Responsibilities Evaluates the nutritional status of patients by reviewing pertinent information obtained from the electronic medical record and the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
Applies knowledge of nutrition screening and assessment to assigned patient populations to determine their nutritional needs.
Conducts nutrition-focused physical exams to determine risk and/or degree of malnutrition. Documents pertinent findings in the medical record as per policy Maintains individual daily productivity, annual competencies, and other required documentation of direct and non-direct patient care functions, with timely submission to direct supervisor.
Meets department benchmarks for productivity.
Provides quality nutrition counseling to patients, family members, and caregivers as indicated. Evaluates nutrition care plans for effectiveness and recommends changes as needed.
Uses professional judgment to adapt and apply guidelines, protocols and professional standards of care to the new and changing needs of the patient.
Evaluates the need for enteral and parenteral nutrition support. Obtains patients' food preferences and confirms allergies.
Communicates with the diet office as needed.
Performs meal rounds. Works collaboratively and professionally with the Food Service Department to ensure patient needs and compliance to therapeutic diets are met.
Communicates effectively with members of the healthcare team by participating in interdisciplinary rounds and discharge planning rounds.
Precepts dietetic interns and instructs them on the competencies required to complete their assigned rotation. Provides feedback for incorporation into student evaluations.
Participates in department activities, including nutrition related in-services, interdepartmental nutrition programs, lectures, and community-focused programs.
Demonstrates effective communication with peers and supervisors. Accepts and incorporates feedback for clinical development.
Compliant with hospital/regulatory guidelines and policies.
Works rotating weekends and holidays. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Requirements: Bachelors degree with completion of ACEND (Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition & Dietetics) accredited dietetic internship required.
Masters Degree in Clinical Nutrition or related field of study preferred.
Minimum 0 years experience + completion of ACEND (Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition & Dietetics)-accredited dietetic internship. Must be a registered dietitian (RD) from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) or registration-eligible, having completed a dietetic internship from an ACEND-accredited program.
If registration-eligible, must pass RD exam within 3 months of hire. Certified Dietitian Nutritionist (CDN) from the NYS Department of Education Office of the Professions encouraged Non-Bargaining Unit, BPM - Food Service Therapeutics
