Tegra Medical has an open position for a full time Injection Molding Process Engineer
The Injection Molding Process Engineer is a "hands-on" position that develops and coordinates manufacturing processes to produce high quality injection molded products for the medical industry.
The Process Engineer is responsible for coordinating the molding efforts on new program launches, setting up and/or revising manufacturing processes and assisting the manufacturing operations in problem solving and continuous process improvements. While monitoring the effectiveness of processes this individual quantifies results, documents and presents findings to management. This position also mentors and provides training to other injection molding personnel.
Role and Responsibilities
Develop robust injection molding processes using industry-standard methods
Troubleshoot molding processes and material or equipment issues
Evaluate tooling for areas of concern, areas of improvement for quality and efficiency, and recommend improvements to optimize molding, setup, and overall manufacturing
Collect and analyze data on individual processes to identify and improve process capability
Document and maintain mold process sheets for accuracy
Support process technicians through training in scientific molding practices and provide direction on project and daily tasks.
Leadership role in continuous improvement and cost reduction activities
Use Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other techniques to analyze process data to determine capabilities as well as improvements
Program robots and peripheral equipment
Reads blueprints, GD&T, and computer-aided design (CAD)
Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure alignment of design, manufacturing, and quality requirements.
Trains employees on manufacturing processes
Compliance to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), clean room requirements and all documented procedures in the Tegra Medical Quality Management System.
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.
Level of Skill, Education and Experience
The injection molding process engineer has a number of job skills and requirements. However, training is available for the right candidate. The ideal candidate will already possess:
Required Qualifications:
B.S. degree in Plastics or Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
5+ years of hands-on experience in injection molding in addition to one of the aforementioned technical degrees
Strong and diverse technical background in injection molding processing, insert molding, thermoplastic materials, tooling, equipment, manufacturing, and quality
Must be able to work with little direction and with a high level of self-motivation.
Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail
Demonstrated superior communication (written and verbal), teamwork, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in medical device industry and with ISO 13485 requirements
Scientific Molding and/or Master Molder certification.
Functional understanding of DFM, medical device design control, regulated quality systems, and the product development process is highly desired.
Prior experience with Arburg molding machines.
Prior experience or knowledge of injection mold tooling fabrication.
Prior experience with robot programming and/or end-of-arm tooling development.
Willingness to work occasional overtime and weekends as needed
