The UW Health Sciences (HS) IRBs office includes a staff of 22 individuals with 13 staff reviewers, who handle initial submissions, changes of protocol, continuing reviews, and reportable events. The Operations Manager will play an integral role in the IRB review process, which includes the delivery of exceptional customer service to the research community.

The Operations Manager will exercise sound judgment and regulatory knowledge while serving as a resource for HS IRBs review staff, principal investigators, and study team members with regard to regulatory and compliance issues. This current position seeks an Operations Manager to oversee the process for new IRB applications reviewed by the convened committee to ensure a smooth and timely review as well as ensuring that the reviews comply with federal regulations, state law, and campus policies. This person will also assist in networking activities between the HS IRBs Office and the research community to facilitate clear and effective communication flow regarding challenges research teams face in regard to regulatory oversight.

In addition, the Operations Manager will act as a staff reviewer for initial reviews as the workload requires. For studies reviewed by the convened board, staff reviewers create written, in-depth analyses of the studies and regulations for the convened IRB to consider as part of their review and determinations related to a submission. By working collaboratively with members of the study teams, regulatory staff, and administrative staff, the staff reviewers help address any issues with the potential to delay in IRB approval. Staff reviewers work under the supervision of and in collaboration with the Director and Assistant Director of the HS IRBs.
