Infusion Pharmacist / TH Senior Pharmacist

The Department of Pharmacy at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time TH Senior Pharmacist / Infusion Pharmacist. The successful candidate will:

• Serve patients by preparing medications, giving pharmacological information to multidisciplinary health care team, and monitoring patient drug therapies.

• Prepare medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders and detection therapeutic incompatibilities.

• Handle and prepare hazardous medications including oncologic medications.

• Dispense medications by compounding, packaging and labeling pharmaceuticals.

• Control medications by monitoring drug therapies; advising interventions.

• Complete pharmacy operational requirements by organizing and directing technicians' workflow, verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals, and verifying order entries, charges and inspections.

• Provide pharmacological information by answering questions and requests of health care professionals and counseling patients on drug therapies.

• Develop hospital staff pharmacological knowledge by participating in clinical programs and training pharmacy staff, students, interns, externs, residents, and health care professionals.

• Comply with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the drug enforcement administration, and the food and drug administration by monitoring nursing unit inspections.

• Maintain records for controlled substances and removes outdated and damaged drugs from the pharmacy inventory.

• Supervise the work results of support personnel

• Maintain current registration, studies existing and new legislation, and advises management on needed actions

• Protect patients and technicians by adhering to infection-control protocols.

• Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

• Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Required Qualifications:

• Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy.

• New York State Pharmacist Licensure or eligibility.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Previous hospital pharmacist experience.

• Previous compounding experience.

• Compounded Sterile Preparations Pharmacy Specialty Certification (BCSCP).

• PGY-1 residency.
