Join a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine Crown Point, located in Crown Point, Indiana. UChicago Medicine is an integrated academic and community health system with multiple primary medical facilities within the surrounding suburbs of Chicago. UChicago Medicine, Crown Point is a new two-story, 130,000-square-foot multispecialty care center and micro-hospital in Northwest Indiana for what will be the academic health system's largest off-site facility and its first freestanding building in Indiana. It is anticipating an opening in Spring 2024.

The Crown Point care center will include:

  • A micro-hospital with an eight-bed emergency department and a short-stay inpatient unit

  • A comprehensive cancer center with infusion therapy as well as radiation, medical and surgical oncology

  • An imaging center with MRI, CT, PET, X-ray and ultrasound capabilities

  • An outpatient surgery center

  • Laboratory services

  • Medical offices with access to UChicago Medicine's physicians and specialists, including those in cancer care, cardiology, digestive diseases, orthopaedics, neurosciences, pediatrics, primary care, surgical specialties, transplant care and women's health

Job Summary:

  • Under the direction of an Attending Physician or a licensed independent practitioner, RN provides technically complex and high risk nursing care services to patients including: intravenous infusions, and injections for both chemotherapy and non-chemotherapy medications.

Position Details:

  • Shift: Day Shift

  • Work Hours: Hours will stagger between 7:00am-5:30pm, Monday-Friday (No On-Call, No Weekends)

  • Location: Crown Point, IN

Essential Job Functions:

  • Accurately completes required patient assessment, documentation, and interpretations for each patient encounter. Possesses sound professional judgment for timely physician intervention as needed. Recognizes patient conditions requiring immediate actions, initiates appropriate life supporting interventions while communicating appropriately with physicians

  • Maintains nursing equipment and work areas in proper working condition; reports malfunctioning equipment or housekeeping issues to the appropriate person. Maintains a neat and clean work area with equipment. Maintains adequate inventory control of all necessary supplies. Emergency equipment maintained with adequate availability, good working order and restocks as needed with a fiscal awareness and accountability

  • Interfaces with customers, specifically patients, families, visitors, and UCMC staff in a professional, positive and accommodating manner; demonstrates knowledge of AIDET principles and employs in all situations; demonstrates flexibility in accommodating special needs of customers whenever possible

  • Performs all required Quality Assurance testing as indicated or as required by UCMC

  • Rotates to clinical areas as directed to assist in safe staffing ratios; utilizes resources to safely transport sedated patients to an appropriate or designated area within the UCMC

  • The RN is expert in assessing and treating and evaluating patient conditions specific to their work area, e.g., anxiety, pain, claustrophobia and underlying disease conditions. Due to the complex nature of pain, RN will evaluate and treat pain in a prompt, caring fashion and reassess after each intervention, charting per UCMC protocol

  • RN maintains hospital required nursing & ICU unit specific competencies needed to provide proficient nursing care; RN will provide continuity of care for infant, pediatric or adult patients based on area of specialty. This includes assisting in the care of critically ill patients during sedation/procedural encounters. Administering high-risk infusion and transfusion (i.e. chemotherapy medicines)

Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN degree or higher preferred.

  • Associate Degree Nurses are required to enroll in a BSN program within six (6) to nine (9) months of hire, and make progress toward and complete their BSN degree within 30 months. ADN nurses receive 100% tuition reimbursement towards a BSN degree from an accredited program

  • ONS Chemotherapy Immunotherapy card within 3 months of hire

  • Chemotherapy experience preferred

  • Experience working in a research environment

  • OCN Preferred

License/Certifications:

  • Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the State of Indiana.

  • Current CPR/BLS

In this role, we anticipate that you will generally work approximately 40 hours per week. We anticipate that you will generally be scheduled to work 8 hour shifts, between the hours of 7:00am-5:30pm and will not be scheduled
