We are seeking a talented individual to fill a role as an Application Platform Engineer I. This individual will work within the Application Platform Engineering team to drive the success of the Application Platform product being offered to our internal and external customers. They will apply the necessary technical expertise to design, implement and provide support for enterprise application platform environments and solutions. This individual will support all application environments including but not limited to: application middleware/runtime, load balancing, API management, cloud PaaS, messaging, and container runtime environments. This individual will partner with multiple teams across the enterprise to ensure corporate success across the broad set of custom applications at HMS.

Essential Responsibilities:

Middleware Platform Engineer I Responsibilities

  • Work with development teams on engineering, configuration and troubleshooting middleware solutions to meet application/business requirements.

  • Assist in the automation, configuration, and support of environment and application specific deployments

  • Work with security and other infrastructure teams to establish an application environment and ensure functionality.

  • Identify and apply innovative technologies to continue growing the application platform offerings.

  • Assist in establishing standards for performance metrics, capacity planning and systems tuning.

  • Develop automation for deployment, maintenance, and enhancement of middleware applications.

  • Working knowledge of HIPAA privacy and Security rules.

Work Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Primarily sedentary work in a general office environment.

  • Ability to communicate and exchange information.

  • Ability to comprehend and interpret documents and data.

  • Requires occasional standing, walking, lifting, and moving objects (up to 10 lbs.).

  • Requires manual dexterity to use computer, telephone and peripherals.

  • May be required to work extended hours for special business needs.

  • May be required to travel up to 20% of time based on business needs.

Minimum Education:

  • B.S. in computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.

Minimum Related Work Experience:

  • 1-3 years system administration experience in a Linux and/or Windows environment
  • 1-3 years of experience with integrating applications and administrating middleware platforms including but not limited to: PaaS for Azure/AWS, Pivotal/Tanzu, Kubernetes, Docker, WebLogic, Tomcat, JBoss, Apache, IIS
  • 1-3 Messaging technology implementation and administration including but not limited to: Kafka, RabbitMQ, JMS
  • 1-3 years of scripting/automation development in standard infrastructure automation tools: Ansible, Terraform, Morpheus
  • 1-3 years of experience working with and configuration of load-balancing, forwarding capabilities: Netscalar, F5, Azure Load Balancer/Gateway

The focus is on enabling engineering teams with expert guidance and tools to deliver frequent, high quality and reliable components as part of our digital platform. This role would also set strategy and lead our evolution to a continuous delivery world. This person would also set strategy and lead our evolution to a continuous delivery world. This person would also manage, guide and educate a fixed and a rotating group of platform developers on security, automation, and cloud architecture/technology. This person will work closely with security, Infrastructure, Risk, Middleware, and other areas of the company to ensure continuous delivery and DevOps are influenced throughout the value chain.
