We are looking for a self-motivated Oracle Apps DBA with excellent communication and customer service skills! In this role you'll help ensure the performance and availability of one of SECURA's most critical applications. The successful candidate will have a passion to understand how our application works with vendor prescribed Oracle landscape! If you get excited by reviewing admin settings, app logs, DBA logs, using your DBA skills, and working with our vendor about their architecture and application to solve a problem, we've got it all! As a member of the Infrastructure team you'll work closely with our internal application development group, application performance engineer, vendor, SQL server DBA, and Infrastructure team.

The Infrastructure Engineer Application DBA's role is to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the in-house information systems that support core organizational functions. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all networked infrastructure and associated operating systems. The Infrastructure Engineer will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT Infrastructure investments.

This is a home office (Neenah, WI) position. Permanent remote will be considered.


  • Provide "Primary Support" duties as Oracle Application DBA; Primary Support responsibilities include performance management, configuration management, availability management, maintaining backup and recovery strategy and documentation, patching, L2 incident ownership through resolution, licensing, capacity management, SLA management and system documentation.

  • Work with key vendor to ensure our Oracle Standard Edition environment is compliant to their specification/requirements and troubleshooting of issues.

  • Assist data modeler(s) and data architect in understanding Oracle DB landscape based on their needs.

  • Review and audit deployment scripts before applying to production. Test and install database systems using thorough testing procedures and checklists to verify software functionality, as it relates to the database.

  • Participate in and conduct walk-throughs and modeling of database systems and business processes.

  • Proactively identify, review, test, recommend, etc patches, upgrades, fixes, etc to ensure the health of the production environment.

  • Enhance technical and analytical competence through experience, research, and continuing education on database systems and business functions. Research emerging database technologies. Recommend new software that can enhance operational and development activities that will improve overall effectiveness of individual departments to others in IS.

  • Collaborate with business users and IT Security to implement a data security policy to ensure the protection of corporate data within the confines of vendor's landscape. Assist operations and applications in problem/resolution analysis. Responsible for coordinating and implementing changes that prevent problems from reoccurring.

  • Professionally represent the Infrastructure team as a technical representative on projects

  • Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing infrastructure technology; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging the current infrastructure.

  • Maintain a good working knowledge of current infrastructure footprint and industry trends. This includes working with SMEs of adjacent technologies.

  • Maintain the necessary project plans and documentation of all system builds and modifications. Develop project plans and publish status updates.

  • Monitor systems and identify performance issues proactively

  • Provide orientation and mentoring to backup DBA and junior associates. Receive orientation and mentioned on SQL DBA.

  • Provide SQL Server DBA services when SQL Server DBA on vacation.

  • Work within strict timeframes and elevate incidents within defined timeframes

  • Test all changes to networks, hardware, software, and hosted applications

  • Maintain good working relationships with all service providers and vendors to ensure that services received meet expected requirements of contract

  • Participate in 24 x 7 on call rotation

  • Working knowledge (5+ years) of Oracle v12 and/or v19, JVMs, and WebLogic v12.

  • Manage Windows based Oracle Database servers through multiple lifecycle environments including but not limited to- Dev, QA, Staging, Performance, pre-Prod, and Production.

  • Ensure healthy configuration management, ideally automated, is practiced throughout all Oracle servers through all environments.

  • Support of application performance tuning process from reported issue thru tested and implemented solution. play an integral part in performance tuning/troubleshooting; help answer the question - is it the application, the DB or the network?

  • Support and improve the reliability, stability and scalability of all Oracle platforms

  • Deep knowledge of Desired State Configuration, Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery

  • Assist IT staff with Oracle development and query optimization, security, production data processes and creation of baseline query performance standards.

  • Monitor and report on database performance

  • Work closely with the Management team to define project requirement clarity and schedule

  • Understand Data Warehouse schema fundamentals.

  • Working technical knowledge of scripting programming languages including vbscript and powershell.

  • Competence with testing, flowchart, and data mapping tools and procedures, including Visio and PowerPoint

  • Ability to identify incident trends in order to elevate incidents in accordance with best practices.

  • Able to gather relevant information systematically to troubleshoot and resolve issues.

  • Strong technical and communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision making skills.

  • Strong attention to detail, testing and documentation.


  • SQL Server 2019/2016/2014/2012/2008 as a DBA.

  • WebLogic/JVM knowledge

  • Windows Server 2019/2016/2012

  • Working knowledge of P&C insurance processing systems.

  • Pervious software development experience (e.g. .Net, C#, Java)

  • Big Data Analysis

  • Experience with 3 or more of the following technologies: VMWare 6x, Data Center Management, Infrastructure Monitoring, Enterprise Compute, Enterprise Storage, RHEL and Exchange/O365

  • Solid technical background in a hosted services environment including infrastructure networks, hardware, software and telecommunications

  • Knowledge of ITIL and industry best practices

  • Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
