The United States Marshals Service is the nation's oldest and most versatile federal law enforcement agency. The incumbent serves as a Network Engineer responsible for the full range of the IT network environment supporting USMS personnel.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Planning, developing, and implementing secure, cost-effective IT networking solutions for customers including responsibility for any classified systems and/or programs.

  • Assisting users in research and development of new networking technologies that will support operations.

  • Facilitating the IT change control process and providing updates on a cyclical basis to ensure implementation of networking and other IT services are within budget and schedule.

  • Serving as an escalation point to ensure appropriate Help Desk and Break Fix response.

  • Developing, implementing and executing project plans; tracking project status, identifying and mitigating risk, and adjusting project plans as required.

Minimum Qualifications

In addition to the basic requirement above, applicants must qualify for this position via the experience described below.

To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience for the respective grade level(s) in which you are applying:

Specialized Experience: Applicant must have one or more years of specialized work experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service performing duties related to:

  • Managing the configuration, installation, and integration of network switches, routers, workstations, and hardware/software components into the current enterprise;

  • Planning, developing, and implementing secure, cost-effective networking IT solutions for customers;

  • Participating on IT functionality teams to help with development, implementation and/or execution of specialized IT tasks or projects; and

  • Assisting the facilitation of IT change control processes to ensure services are within budget and schedule.

Position Summary The Junior Database Administrator (DBA) typically performs the duties of a Production DBA, a Weblogic Administrator, and an Application DBA. This position is responsible for database and application server installations and upgrades. This position installs and maintains the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Data Warehouse, and other administrative applications. The Junior DBA will perform database and application server monitoring, and database backup and recovery. This position reports to the Director of Enterprise Software Development and Database Administration and participates in team projects related to database administration. Essential Functions Perform the following duties under supervision: * Create and maintain Oracle and SQL Server databases required for development, testing, and production usage. * Install, configure, and administer Oracle Weblogic Server and other application servers. * Perform ERP, Data Warehouse, and other Administrative software installs, upgrades, and patches Execute backup and recovery strategies for databases and applications Monitor databases and applications for availability. * Provide 24/7 support for critical situations on an on-call basis. * Follow enterprise standards to apply requested and approved modifications to database structures, data, and applications. * Manage complete project lifecycle. * Effectively communicate project status with direct supervisor and project owner.
