Job Description and Duties

The California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) is seeking an Information Technology (IT) Specialist II. In this expert role, you will be responsible for leadership and expertise in managing, supporting, and administering enterprise and complex cloud network services.

The incumbent requires an expert level of knowledge, skills, and abilities in all aspects of networks in multiple instances that provide the following services throughout the department which include but not limited to, the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud hosting, Azure Cloud Services (ACS) cloud hosting, Google cloud, public cloud infrastructure, co-location architecture, cloud application programming interface (APIs) and protocols that enable a hybrid network model. The incumbent must have knowledge on deployment and management of cloud and network services and integration across local and wide-area networks through virtual private networks (VPN).

The IT Specialist II works with business staff, infrastructure architects, management, and other technical experts to develop and maintain the long-term architectural, maintenance, and support strategies for CSAC networking systems. The incumbent makes networking architecture decisions for project teams and ensures those decisions are consistent with long-term strategies and architecture.

Working Conditions

Employee's work is to be performed within an office environment, and is equipped with standard or ergonomic office equipment, as needed. Attend meetings in designated conference rooms and be willing to travel to off-site locations.

This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on the CSAC's current telework policy.

While the CSAC supports telework, in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksite with minimal notification if an urgent need arises, as determined by the Department. The selected candidate may be required to conduct business travel on behalf of the Department or commute to the headquartered location.

Business travel reimbursements considers an employee's designated Headquarters Location, primary residence, and may be subject to California Department of Human Resources regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

Special Requirements

This position is subject to on-call and standby time and periodic off-shift, weekend work. This position is work week group "E" which is exempted from coverage under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). A work week group "E" or salaried employee does not receive overtime compensation and may be required to work specific hours to provide services when deemed necessary by management. Employees who are excluded from FLSA shall not charge paid leave for absences of less than whole day increments or docked for absences of less than a whole day.

Cut off dates are beginning March 27th, 2024, April 10th, 2024, April 24th, 2024, etc. and every 2 weeks after until the position is filled.

You are an experienced Information Technology (IT) Specialist II and subject matter expert, who wants to focus on promoting and supporting the foundational information system principles of confidentiality, integrity, and availability throughout the department. The following bullet points describe you:

  • You have experience designing, administering, configuring, and troubleshooting IT networking areas like firewall, networking equipment's, Palo Alto, Aruba etc.

  • You have experience in cloud product configurations and customizations.

  • You have experience in vulnerability assessment, threat assessment, risk management, and remediation planning.

  • You have experience in AWS Cloud computing and native technologies (AWS EC2, AWS Elastic IP, AWS WAF, AWS Directory Service, AWS VPC, Subnets, AWS NAT Gateway, AWS EKS, AWS ECR, AWS Elastic Cache, etc.)

  • You have experience performing as an IT subject matter expert within an organization.

  • You have experience in Window, Linux, and Unix OS environments.
