Responsible for enhancing, supporting, and maintaining an application(s) within the St. Luke's Health System. Responsible for the daily operation of pharmacy information software and automation, including implementation and monitoring of procedures. Develops and maintains databases and provides technical support for pharmacy staff and management. Responsible for data management, retrieval, development and execution of plans for implementation of software upgrades and new technologies. The intent of this job description is to provide a summary of the major duties and responsibilities of this position and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the position.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide ongoing maintenance, support and development to assigned applications and implement new products.

  • Troubleshoot, research, and solve technically challenging problems involving integrated systems.

  • Test and verify software releases, upgrades and any changes prior to the promotion of code to the production environment.

  • Generate and update appropriate documentation as per policy and procedure. Including requirements, specifications, change control, end user documentation.

  • Provide education and training for application end user community - keeping them informed of new release feature/functionality, changes/revisions that impact the operation.

  • Create and route required operational and management reporting needs as required by management and regulatory agencies.

  • Maintain current knowledge of technology by attending appropriate continuing education training/seminars and reading related periodicals

  • Understand and can describe clinical/operational processes / needs and transform them into scope and/or requirements during the development of functionality and application process.

  • Understands and applies process improvement, demand management and project management methodologies.

  • Provides recommendations for evaluations of new technologies.

  • Will interact and collaborate with all levels of healthcare personnel; IT Management, Clinicians, Consultants and Administrators.

  • Level 3 support for Application related issues.

  • Manages and contributes pharmaceutical expertise to committees assigned to.

  • May perform the essential functions of a staff pharmacist if required.

  • Maintain current knowledge of technology by attending appropriate continuing education training/seminars and reading related periodicals.

  • On-Call Support Required.

  • Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/ Entity as well as the proper release of information Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements.

  • Demonstrates/models the Network's Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external).

  • Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety.

  • Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices.

PHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS: Sitting for up to 7 hours per day, 4 hours at a time; standing for up to 7 hours per day, 4 hours at a time; walking for up to 2 hours a day, 1 hour at a time. Requires crouching, kneeling, and lifting of objects weighing up to 60 pounds, pushing objects weighing up to 80 pounds. Requires hand and finger dexterity to perform repairs of small equipment and to use computer equipment. Seeing as it relates to general, near, color, and peripheral vision. Hearing as it relates to normal and telephone conversations.

SUPERVISION (RECEIVED BY AND/OR GIVEN TO):

Supervised by the Applications lead. Reports to Application manager/ director

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS/COMPETENCIES:

Solid understanding of operational / clinical services and information / work flow of assigned areas. Ability to analyze, diagnose, support and implement process/operational change. Strong process improvement and project management skills. Strong Customer Service Orientation and ability to follow through on issue resolution.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

Pharm.D. is required

LICENSURE:

Registered in Pennsylvania or completion of Boards with pending licensure may be accepted. State mandated C.E. (30 hrs. /2 yrs.).

CERTIFICATIONS:

Epic experience and certification is required or must become certified in Epic applications

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:

General:

  • .5 - 7 years experience in a Healthcare environment.

  • Must be a pharmacist with advanced knowledge of hospital pharmacy practice

  • Computer experience and knowledge of pharmacy IS

  • Project Management experience is a plus.

Application Experience:

  • MS Office is required

  • Experience with Epic Application is highly preferred.

Hospital Operations Knowledge / Experience:

  • General, Radiology, Pharmacy, Nursing, Physician Services, Laboratory, Patient Care Services and Patient Processing experience is required.

GENERAL WORK SCHEDULE

  • Full-time and may require additional hours with some nights and weekends required during heavy project load.

  • Travel may be required.
