Under general direction of the Information Technology Manager (IT Mgr) II of Unix Services, the Information Technology Manager (IT Mgr) I, exercises independent responsibility in managing complex, statewide information technology (IT) policy development projects, and develops policies to support and implement IT throughout the State of California. Management and oversight of the platform require an advanced level of organizational understanding and support of innovative technical pursuits. The work requires knowledge of the infrastructure and platform and analysis to determine the nature and scope of the problems in addition to future direction of the platform. The IT Mgr I demonstrates all the necessary qualities of an effective project or function leader and play a key role in the success in the department's use of IT and to the business as a whole. The IT Mgr I also possess the general and technical competencies needed to manage, train, and mentor staff and customers in a complex technical area or process.

The IT Mgr I manages and directs the staff in the Linux & Solaris Support unit that is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and problem resolution of the Unix platforms including but not limited to Linux, Solaris, and Cloud Services at CDT for state and public entity customers, as well as application and communication software.

Working Conditions

  • Position may require the ability to be contacted for service outages or other emergencies.

  • Some travel may be required for meetings, training and conferences.

STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS (SOQ)

Instructions:

The Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is a narrative discussion of how your education, experience, skills, and training meet the minimum and desirable qualifications to qualify you for the position. It serves as documentation of your ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. Your SOQ must be typed, Arial 12 pt. font, no less than one-inch margins, and no more than two pages in length. Your SOQ should include the title "Statement of Qualifications" and your name in header and must address each of the items listed below.

The SOQ should address the following:

  • Provide an overview of your recent experience managing technical teams and your approach to customer service. State details related to your role, the services, and systems you oversaw, and the nature of the work. Explain what you did to continually improve service delivery, team morale and customer satisfaction.

  • Describe your project management experience, specifically focusing on your involvement in the planning and execution of significant infrastructure and/or platform projects. This should include your contributions to strategy development, implementation processes, governance structures, and change management efforts, while managing the needs and expectations of internal and external stakeholders.

  • Describe your background and proficiency in providing coaching and mentorship to employees. Highlight how you have cultivated a conducive work environment that fosters continuous learning, promotes personal growth, and acknowledges individual accomplishments, ultimately driving team members to achieve optimal performance levels.
