GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the direction of Information Technology (IT) staff, this position will assist with research, data entry, and project support related to IT systems and initiatives. The Intern will also gain exposure to various IT functions, such as network administration, cybersecurity, and user support. This position offers a great opportunity for students to learn about county operations, explore career paths in the public sector, and contribute to meaningful projects.
This is a part-time position that requires on-site work; remote or hybrid options are not currently available.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists department staff with a variety of tasks, including research, data entry, project support, and administrative duties.
Learns and gains exposure to various IT functions, including billing, network administration, cybersecurity, and user support.
Assists IT staff with troubleshooting and resolving hardware, software, and network issues.
Supports the installation, configuration, and maintenance of computer hardware and software.
Assists in the management of user accounts and permissions in various systems.
Provides technical support to end-users.
Participates in IT projects, including system upgrades, migrations, and implementations.
Learns and applies best practices for data security and privacy.
Participates in departmental meetings and training sessions.
Assists others and, when necessary, refers them to the appropriate office or staff member.
Creates standard policy and procedure documentation.
Maintains, organizes, and reviews metadata.
Maintains a professional and courteous demeanor while interacting with the public, staff, and elected officials.
Operates an automobile to perform assigned job functions.
Performs related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Education and Experience:
Possession of a high school diploma or a certificate of the successful completion of the General Educational Development Test
Interested in pursuing a career in Information Technology
Preferred Education and Experience
Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field
Coursework in computer hardware, software, networking, and cybersecurity
Experience with a help desk or technical support environment
