IT Infrastructure Manager

REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

STATUS: FULL-TIME, NON-EXEMPT, HOURLY

Lake Erie College, a small, co-educational, four-year, independent liberal arts college located in Painesville, OH, 30 miles east of Cleveland, invites applications for the full-time position of IT Infrastructure Manager. The IT Infrastructure Manager is primarily responsible for technical infrastructure systems and support. This position requires knowledge of server operating systems, user and identity access management, network architecture and cyber security best practices. Responsibilities will include the installation, administration, upgrading, maintaining, and testing of network hardware and software systems. The IT Infrastructure Manager helps to research, test, and make recommendations about new technology and enterprise solutions and will assist with the deployment and implementation of network and systems projects. The IT Infrastructure Manager will play a large role in defining, maintaining and optimizing technology strategy and architecture to meet the business goals and objectives of the College. The IT Infrastructure Manager will collaborate with the Director of Information Technology to improve information security, develop best practices for technical solutions, and investigate emerging technologies to assist with IT processes and strategic planning initiatives. Working within a technical environment that is primarily Windows-based, the IT Infrastructure Manager will work with numerous technologies including: DNS, DHCP, AD, Print Management, ITSM, WAN/LAN/WLAN Infrastructure, Hyper-V, Disaster Recovery, Azure, and AWS, among several others.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Installs, administers, and maintains operating systems, utilities and applications software on computing systems.

  • Assist with the configuration, installation, and maintenance of LANs, WLANs, and WANs and the infrastructure that supports the operation.

  • Resolves system emergencies with significant impact on the integrity of user data and systems.

  • Work with the Director of IT to monitor events and address security risks and various identified system vulnerabilities.

  • Document procedures and configurations for use by members of the IT team and/or campus- wide, where applicable.

  • Partake in routine disaster recovery planning processes, make recommendations to improve business continuity including backup procedures and process automation.

  • Assist with the evaluation and adoption of cloud technologies supporting hybrid infrastructure which currently includes both Azure and AWS environments.

  • Acts as a technical expert for domain computer system administration.

  • Acts as second-level support for elevated technical issues.

  • Provides assistance with server, storage, network, telephony, audio/video, security and other related equipment, as needed.

  • Provides on-call and after-hours support on an as-needed basis.

  • Assists with managing vendor relationships and cost-effective hardware and software maintenance agreements with vendors.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Information Technology.

Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & KEY COMPENTENCIES:

  • Possesses ability to: deliver technical customer support over the phone or in person; identify, troubleshoot and resolve a wide range of level one technical computer-related problems.

  • Possesses knowledge of: desktop operating systems, various software applications and basic hardware for the PC; principles and theories of network systems and management; Internet technologies and products.

  • Server/directory administration and configuration experience preferred.

  • Must be comfortable with presenting and conducting training/orientation sessions for students, staff and faculty, as needed.

  • Growth and "doer" mindset and institutional teamwork ethic.

  • Creative, strategic, thoughtful, and has a sense of humor.

  • Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time in front of a computer. Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking.
