The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides information technology leadership and support to the Georgia Institute of Technology, working in partnership with academic and business units to meet the unique needs of a leading research university. OIT serves as the primary source of enterprise-wide information technology and telecommunications services in support of students, faculty, staff, and researchers.

Job Summary

Under minimal guidance, provides advanced level design and project management services in the development and implementation of low voltage information technology related systems. Projects can generally be defined as single or multiple mid-sized to large in scope and high complexity.

Defines the scope and works independently. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: facilities management D&C, staff, faculty, consultants, vendors, other universities, and contractors.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -

Confer with customers to develop scope and define project.

Job Duty 2 -

Prepare drawings and specifications of low voltage (data / voice / fiber / CATV) infrastructure cabling.

Job Duty 3 -

Manage project through installation / construction.

Job Duty 4 -

Confer with occupants, project managers, and end-users for the coordination of infrastructure cabling with other trades.

Job Duty 5 -

Review and comment on low voltage designs by outside consultants for campus capital projects. Help to establish and maintain campus low voltage design standards. Trouble shoot and analyze low voltage cabling /systems and implement solutions.

Job Duty 6 -

Act as liaison between OIT and outside cellular and connectivity providers. Participate in strategic planning process and provide budgetary input for projects.

Job Duty 7 -

Prepare purchase requests. Set and manage project budget. Monitor expenses incurred.

Job Duty 8 -

Review test reports and QC installations.

Job Duty 9 -

Perform as team lead, mentor and train junior IT Infrastructure Engineering Team.

Job Duty 10 -

Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience

Eight years of job related experience

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications

Other Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) certifications Seasoned knowledge of wireless, IP cameras, access control, and other low voltage systems

Preferred Educational Qualifications

Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Information Technology or related field

Preferred Experience

Twelve years of job related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Holding a current BICSI RCDD would be required. (Building Industry Consulting Services International, Registered Communications Distribution Designer.)

  • Also required would be skilled at AutoCAD, as well as MS Office.

  • Bachelor¿s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Other high level BICSI certifications ¿ RTPM, DCDC, OSP, NTS, WD.

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (EE).

  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE).

  • Experience with reading and interpreting test equipment software (e.g. Fluke LinkWare)

  • Experience with wireless, IP cameras, access control, OSP design.

Salary max 136,566

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLS

Advanced level application of low voltage infrastructure cabling and project management. Advanced knowledge of technical low voltage cabling concepts and applicable codes.

Proficient computer skills for Word, Excel, and AutoCAD drafting software. Able to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
